they probably mean that the kitten has bacterial overgrowth in it's small bowel. flagyl selectively inhibits bad bacterial growth while promoting the growth of normal gut flora.

no i wouldn't say it's THAT dangerous. obviously it causes issues with digestion and absorption so long term it can cause probs, but the kitty should be fine after taking flagyl.
