Hi, my 7 year old son is having surgery on Tuesday (to correct a hernia). It's just occurred to me that this is a risk factor for tetanus. Could there be tetanus germs in theatre or inside my son's body that could get into his blood?

Would like to know what you think, thanks.

Only if you live in a country with no standards of operating theatre cleanliness or if he rubs dirt in his wound before it's healed.

Thanks, I often worry about tetanus. I suppose it's because the children are often getting scratches and splinters. Just occurred to me that this is a deep wound that will be deprived of oxygen - we are in the UK, so I'm sure standards will be high in theatre. I told them he was up to date with his vax schedule to keep them happy, actually he is partially vaccinated. Afterwards I wondered whether tetanus was the reason they asked in the first place about his vaccinations. Surgery tomorrow so hopefully all will be well.
