there was a thread a while back but it was soooo long and confusing I gave up, and since I think it was fall at the time I didn't worry about it. but summer is coming and my kids need sunscreen

I know limiting direct exposure and hats are great. but as to actual sunscreen. I'm clued out other that I know parabens are bad.

Ooh, it's too late for me to go into right now but if you are really interested go to www.mercola.com and search "sunscreen". I like his info b/c he gives his sources...which are scientific, reputable sources in most cases.

There's a thread over in health and healing this week where we've been discussing mineral sunscreens and the risks of nano-particles.

EWG's least-concerning brand is supposedly California Baby -- discussed more on the thread. Hold on, I'll go and fetch the link...

I believe UV Natural sunscreen contains some of the safest ingredients as well.

Hello,
I am pretty new to natural home and body care, but I'm a long-time advocate for knowing what's in your hair and body care and paying for what you get. Hope I don't get flamed for this, but my main source of good information has been the cosmetics cop (http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/reviews.asp.) She really breaks it down in terms of what natural means in the bath and beauty industry, and what in the products you're using. There are only a handful of ingredients that provide both uva and uvb protection, and they are zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and avobenzone. I have found that avobenzone can cause discoloration to clothing, and I just don't like chemical sunscreens. They burn your eyes when you start to sweat. So I only buy sunscreens w/ either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as the sole active ingredient. They are hard to find, though! I use Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock Lotion.
