All I know is that you are not supposed to take high amounts of it in pregnancy.

But are there different kinds of vitamin A?
How much is too much?
Why shouldnt you take too much?
What if I ate a bag of carrots?

I am worried about my iron as well - I just read on a due date forum about different ways to help the iron uptake and a lot of people recommend chlorophyll!... I found this in our country:

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pag...il.asp?pid=138

Says its provitamin A though... is that good or bad? They say the source is betacarotene. Does that mean that it is just good for vitamin A absorbtion or that it has a lot in it?

Thanks!

Synthetic, lab-created Vitamin A is toxic and dangerous. It is called vitamin a palmitate. I don't take any vitamins with palmitate.

Betacarotene is a pre-cursor to vitamin a, You can't overdose on it. The body takes what it needs and makes vitamin a with it. You can eat all the carrots you want.

While there is some controversy, the best info I could find on natural source vitamin a such as livers, cod liver oils etc is that it is safe and highly beneficial. Though personally, I wouldn't go over 10,000-15,000 IU daily.

Google wapf and vitamin a for more info.

Ann of Loxley-- I love your name.

I've read that basically only synthetic Vitamin A is dangerous, and that it's fine in food form. But I don't know very much about it really, just that you can't OD on winter squash.
