At first I thought wool was not an option for us, but now I'm thinking about it more and more (breathability, most soakers are cuter than ME AF, etc.)

Our stash is mostly prefolds, with a few sugarpeas in the mix. Does the snappi get caught on the wool? How many soakers would I need for full-time use? Is there a catch with them?

Please spam me so I can drool over them, and maybe talk dh into getting soakers.

TIA!

I use CPFs exclusively with mostly wool soakers. The only drawback to wool is if baby has a blowout it has to be washed by hand instead of just throwing it in the machine. I don't have any problems with the Snappi getting caught. I would say for full time use you would probably want about 6-8 wool covers because they do take longer to dry after washing than other covers. But on the up side they don't need to be washed when they get damp - just hang up to dry!

We use mainly soakers I knit from the LTK pattern. i added extra short rows and an extra 'pad' in the crotch area. I love it. No snappi snags and dd isn't getting naked as often.lol

The only catch is when/if your child starts stripping, you need to thread the soakers backwards.lol

We have 4 per child, I think but I need to knit more.

I use a mixture of fitteds and prefolds under my wool and have no problems. You can just spot wash if it gets some poop on it. I say go for it. I love wool for so many reasons. If I were you I would look on ebay. There always seems to be alot on there. You can also check Simply Sage , KnitwitzBaby and Granola Moms for instock. There are tons out there and I'm sure you get lots of links.

I use wool w/ prefolds and pins. Soakers...I don't have many-Disana and Aristocrat for night, and a BJmarketplace so far...These are not as tight around the legs as a cover, so you may have more leaks w/ soakers than with covers. Not sure if this is true for all soakers as I do not have many at all, but the legs are not as snug IMO. Covers....a good fitting wool cover is just as secure as a good fitting PUL cover.
I have hardly any blowouts now that I have gone over to pins and good fitting wool covers.
When there is a leak on the cover, immediatly washing the area with baby shampoo or wash and cold water has done the trick every time.

I love wool - I have knitted up a substantial stash (well it would be substantial if I didn't have twins), but am experiencing wicking with it. I've relanolized but still wicking. We're using Indian prefolds underneath, and I thought that would do? Should I use another wool liner to help out? Maybe more lanolin? Help! My husband won't use wool when he's home....and I love my hand dyed soakers...

I just started knitting my own wool soakers (just started on a pair of shorts!) and I am in love. I use prefolds most of the time with the occasional AIO or pocket dipe thrown in the mix. I only have 2 soakers knit up so I also have 2 covers I use as well. I've also thrown the soaker in the dryer a few times to help with the dry time and have had no problems so far. I'm not sure I would have done that if I had paid big money for it

I use prefolds under my homemade soakers and pants and haven't had a snappi caught yet. I'd say a minimum of four would be needed to allow for the long drying time, but I ususally alternate two pairs during the day.

I was going to SPAM you with a pair I made recently, but they're pink and then I noticed you had a boy!

Wool and prefolds work great together provided you can fold in such a way that you get good wetzone coverage (this may require you to trifold or size up), esp if you are tryng to find an on the go combo and/or your child is a super soaker.

My fav these days is a 4 folded microfiber towel (sams club 20/$9.00) wraped inside a trifolded infant cpf. I use these just laid inside a L SP wool flannel cover, OH SO TRIM and pretty darn absorbant.

I think 2-4 wool covers is enough, depending on whether you suppliment with other types of covers.

More than likely I'd use wool at home so I can stare at ds's cute butt, plus we venture out of the house/backyard once or twice a week. Right now I've got a ton of ME AF which I could use for on the go, and after reading (yet again) about how great wool is, and then the 'blow test,' well, that pushed me over the edge. I'm also waffling with the microfiber towels, but I think I'll just take the plunge with that one (we've got a Costco, so I'm good there). Ds's measurements are (at 8 months): 16" waist, 9" thighs, 14" rise. Are there any soaker types/brands my little guy should stay away from? He's always been kinda small. (OT, but a woman at Costco asked me the other day if he was a preemie - nope, he's just small like his daddy was. Grrrr.) He's crawling well, and I forsee walking in the next few months as well.

TIA!

Imonter

My son was a preemie
and I have always used Bumpy wool wraps with wonderful success! I found that skinny legs seem to work better with gussets. I have four wraps per size and only occassionally (twice) wished for more (Fortunantly, my best friend cd and I could borrow wraps from her!). I use two per week, unless poop happens
and alternate between wraps each diaper change. Then I use something heavier at night. I started with Aristocrats, then switched to Demeter night wraps when dh took over night diapering. Right now I am knitting some soakers, one from LTK and one from Fern and Fairie, since ds outgrew his demeter's and I just can't spend the money for two more Aristocrats! I might try those for day use, but they seem bulkier than my Bumpys, just looking at them. I am in love with wool, so I say go for it! Oh, and no snappy snags or prob using prefolds.

We use mostly prefolds with our wool. I have 3 wool covers and 3 soakers and that's plenty for us. I go back and forth between the snappi and pins. I get a better fit w/a pinned newspaper fold, but little dude is entering that alligator death roll during diaper change phase
....so I'm riding it out w/the snappi. We've never had any snags. Blowouts....teething poo..need I say more, lol. That fold that Knittin' in the Shade posted a while back with the rolled in edges was a lifesaver for that stuff! I can't remember what she called it, though...
.. anybody else remember?
