OK, I hope this isn't the wrong forum...

But I was wondering if a SAHM can apply for a card herself, in her own name. Right now I can't get a credit card because of some dumb things I did when I was 18
but in another two years I might be eligible. I have one card, but dh had to apply for it himself and then just request a second one in my name.

So if a SAHM applies do they just reject it because she doesn't earn income, or can she just list her dh's income?

Yup, I have a credit card in my own name (Amazon.com btw, totally easy to get). They asked for household income.

You might go ahead and apply anyway. The application won't hurt you *that* much and you might be pleasantly surprised.

GB, when i was at home full time, i had established credit in my own name, using "household income".

You might be able to get a credit card in your own name now, even with poor credit. 7 years ago my credit was worse than bad, and i got one from Capital One with a limit of $300. Providian does this as well.

Good luck.

Actually I had a hard time getting one for myself and I'm married and work full time out of the house. I think if I remember correctly my DH had to apply for one and then request another card in a different name. They have lots of ads for really easy pre-approved cards but once you sign all the forms they can say, "not at this time". I didn't have any bad credit I just didn't have credit, and the only way to get credit is to have a credit card, and before you get a credit card you have to prove you have credit.
I dunno. I did apply for a Herbeger's card (because they re easier to get) and I think with my Herb card I could probably get one by myself. Good luck.

If you want to build credit, Starr, you need to get a secured credit card, where you pay them in advance for your credit limit, like a deposit, then buy and pay it off until you've established that you will pay it down. Then you can upgrade to a "real" one. If you want to enter the wonderful world of debt, that is!

I have 2 in my own name. One from Target and one from Amazon. They both have high interest rates though, so I have to pay them off immediately if I use them.

BTW, I don't have great credit either. I had horrible credit before marrying dh and haven't worked since (4 yrs).

I'm sure you can get a credit card....I can't...but only because of my horrible credit from being stupid and married the first time around.

Frankly, I don't want any credit cards at this point...Ken has a few...and we stay on top of things...but it's REALLY difficult. If I want something and don't have the cash for...I don't get it...I'm not known for my frugality, either. I like to spend...spend spend spend. lol On second thought....GIVE ME THAT CREDIT CARD. lol
