Has anyone here successfully wheedled themselves out of the required 6mo. quarantine for fresh donors? We have done 2 tries at home with fresh semen, so I've already accepted the potential risks involved. We're now thinking about having him donate and freeze or do an IUI with fresh. It seems like both these options would require a sperm bank or clinic.

Has anyone worked with a sperm bank that is flexible about this rule?

Yes, we had our known donor freeze sperm at our fertility clinic (and then did IUIs) and the fertility clinic had us sign a waiver for the 6-month quarantine.

I should add that we were ttc#2 with the same known donor, had done fresh sperm with both #1 and our second pg that we miscarried, and had been using fresh sperm to try for a third pregnancy. We had successfully done a second parent adoption of our daughter, who was 3 when we started trying for #2, so it was a pretty convincing case that we presented very minimal legal risk, as we'd already assumed all risks in every way independently of the clinic.

Sperm Bank of California waived it for us. You just have to sign a waiver.

You could also consider shipping fresh sperm via bio tranz, which would let you do an IUI if you can find someone to wash it for you. Or it just makes travel logistics (if you're dealing with that) easier.

good luck!

And you can get it around it for IUIs if you find a provider who is not willing to let you sign a waiver by claiming to be sexual partners/having sexual contact.

Really, when you consider the risks, DIY insem is medically the same as "having sexual contact."
