Hey allergy mamas. Could you help me think this though?

My DD is nearly 13 months. I've been going slowly w/ solids since we do have a family history of allergies (but very mild, almost unnoticeable, food allergies)

She's had eczema since birth that I have under pretty good control, but haven't figured out triggers for.

Yesterday dd had by far the worst reaction she's ever had to anything. It was a skin reaction. She had welts all over her face, shoulder, limbs and some on her torso. She was obviously very itchy and uncomfortable and felt hot to the touch.

I quickly bathed her (in case it was environmental and something on her skin was causing it) applied cortisone cream and moisturizer and put her in long sleeve footie pjs to keep her from tearing her skin up scratching. I also gave her a small dose of Bynadryl.

After the Bynadryl dd was able to nurse to sleep and stayed asleep for about 2 hours. Her face stayed noticeably red, hot and puffy for about an hour after the nap.

Today she is back to normal.

Only two things new happened yesterday that I can think of. 1st an Exterminator came to give us a quote on termite treatment. Then while he was out in the truck preparing the estimate, DD had a few bites of the scrambled eggs with cheese I had made myself. I have offered egg yolk and cheese before, but the egg white was new.

The exterminator did not spray anything, did not touch dd or me and was only here in the house for maybe 10 min total. The only thing he left was the paper with his quote.

The reaction happened 30min to an hour after the exterminator left (she ate the eggs in the middle of him being here)

So what do you think? Eggs or exterminator? Thanks.

I vote the eggs. And that sounds like a pretty serious reaction. I would definitely see an allergist and get an epipen if you don't already have one.

I'm not sure if you meant to say "have figured out triggers for" or haven't... but if she still has eczema it means there are more triggers that you haven't found.

I'm with ChangingSeasons. It sounds like hives, which means an allergist is in order.

Thanks.

I've edited the op to fix it to say "haven't"

Do you think eggs I've been eating could be triggering the eczema? She's still nursing quite a bit. I hadn't thought of eggs before. The eczema really is almost gone now and, other than yesterday, I haven't used the steroid cream in months. I was hoping she was growing out of it.

She's also eaten several things that contained eggs with no discernible reaction.

My first guess would be the eggs as well.

Although...did you notice the exterminator's clothing smelling or anything? A neighbor has stopped in a few times at our house on the way home from work(he works at Proctor and Gamble making laundry soap/fabric softener). Dh doesn't even notice the smell, but if I am upstairs and dh answers the door, I know who it is as I come partway down the stairs from the smell of him! Then my nose clogs up and the brain fog sets in unless we air out the house.

Just a thought, knowing exterminators deal with a lot of icky stuff...
