So I want to make this adorable poncho:
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/vi...d_id=1&lang=us

I've only knitted a couple of scarves in the round as practice. Do you think I can do it? :p

Anyways, what are all those parenthesis and brackets? I sort of figure it is in inches?

And what does it mean when it goes "19-21-23"? Are those the stitches depending on the size you are making?

What does it mean to knit back and forth? Does it mean you just move the work from right to left without turning?

Last one! What does this mean "P the 6 sts mid front on first round, and then work them in stockinette st." What is the mid front? You should knit until you get to the middle?

Otherwise, the stockinette and moss stitches seem pretty easy to do. I just don't understand the instructions!

This is cute!

I think you can do it if you work slowly and are careful to follow the pattern. Definitely ask for help if you are unsure about the decreases or anything.

When it says "Cast on 37-39-41 (45-47)" those numbers correspond to the sizes 1/3 - 6/9 - 12/18 months (2 - 3/4) years. So if you are doing the smallest size, then stick with the first number throughout the pattern.

Parentheses and brackets - do you mean this: 8 mm [US 11] (60 cm [24'']) ?

US 11 refers to the needle size (its the same as 8 mm). 24" is the needle length. This is knit on circulars which come in different needle sizes and lengths. So you need a 24 inch US 11 circular. (But do a gauge swatch first, because everyone knits differently.)

Knit back and forth - In the first instruction, this means to knit to the end of the row, turn you work, and knit the next row, rather than joining and working in the round. It's just the "normal" way of knitting. You'll start working in the round later on.

"P the 6 sts mid front on first round, and then work them in stockinette st." - Before you get to this step, you'll have placed markers, so I think it will be clear which 6 stitches these are. So, on the first round, you will work in stockinette (k) until you reach these stitches, which you will purl. On the next round, you'll k as the others.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! You made so much sense! I guess I'm used to patterns that are written row by row.

Oh, increases! I don't know really understand.

"INCREASING TIP: Inc 1 st by making 1 YO. Work YO into back of loop on return row to avoid a hole. "

So when you knit that yo'd stitch, you insert your needle into the back of that stitch?

Thanks again.
