Hi again, mamas!

ssia-if you are able to nurse discreetly in your MT, how do you do it?

Also, what do you recommend for a padded ring sling? I mean padded up around the shoulder, definitely, and possibly padded along the leg rail (for baby).

Spam, links, etc. all welcome here!

I nurse in my MT, I don't know about discreely, lol. I like to wear 2 layers, like a v-neck and a hoodie or something, and pop out the top of the tshirt or pull it up, depending on the shirt. The jacket keeps my sides covered so it isn't immediately apparent that I am in a state of undress. My mt has a separate headrest piece that can double as a bit of a drape, or I just put my hand over the top.

I have pretty big breasts, and was never really able to nurse hands-free in a sling. I can manage with the MT because I get enough support underneath to point the nipple in the right direction. I stay mostly covered, people need to get within about 4 feet and really look to see what is going on.
I can nurse in my mei tai but not discreetly... *lol* Unless I do like Rebecca said and wear layers.

For a padded ring sling, I had one from Polar Bear Creations that was great! The shoulder padding was really nice. I think you can get them at www.togetherbaby.com or on eBay.

HTH!

Edited to add - I should have put too that it depends on how you define discreet.
I can nurse so that no one notices, if that's more what you mean.
But depending on how close you are, you might see some tummy or side skin unless I'm wearing an open shirt over my carrier, which works great btw, if you're a super-modest mama like me.
I will say too that I can nurse more discreetly in my mei tai or podegi than my pouch. I do okay with my slings as long as they've got a looooooong tail, and then it's covered, but obvious that I'm nursing, kwim? So...

I'm nursing in my Kozy right now
I wear nursing clothes that open right at breast level and just open them up and dd latches on!

For padded slings, I like my Heart to Heart because of the split tail design so it's easy to adjust both rails independently. However, I do prefer an unpadded ring sling in general - I'm LOVING my Zolowear stretch ring sling these days

I can nurse in my FH MT here are some pictures from the old FH site of Kaire nursing... http://www.freewebs.com/freehand/renfest.htm
I can nurse in my Mei Tai but I've got big boobs and you can usually see them when I do. I think if I wore a nursing tank top under my shirt I could do it more discreetly. Today I was wearing a low cut shirt so I just pulled my boob up through top of my shirt. I wasn't trying to hide myself but if I had flipped the body of the MT up it might have helped hide me.

:LOL That's what I do at home if it's just me and the kiddos. Flop it goes out over the top!
but, how well does this work with a newborn?

I would put a newborn in a cradle hold in a sling or wrap, personally. I think MT's are better after the baby is able to hold themselves upright a little more. When you find yourself holding them with one arm, sitting on your hip, then they are ready for a MT.

Just my personal opinion, though. I know there are happy newbies in MTs.
I have nursed a 1mo old hands free in a MT while shopping!!
Nursing in a MT is a daily thing here and when we are out no one has a clue what I am doing.
My baby is 7 weeks today and I've been nursing handsfree in a mei tai for 2 weeks now! I like to wear Glamourmom tanks either on their own or under a t-shirt if I know I may be nursing in public. So far I've only nursed in my Freehand, but yesterday I received my first Kozy and I think it may even be easier to be discreet since it comes up a bit higher.
Thanks, everyone! Yeah, discreetly was the operative word, lol. I am loving my angelpack MT, though.
Nope, can't nurse discreetly in it, but it is comfy and ohhh soo pretty!
(He's a year old and kinda big.....)
