This is probably a crazy question, but my cousin has a preemie and her sister has a 3.5 month old. My cousin is pumping for her,
: but its probably not a bad idea to have her sister pump either.

anyway, I have no idea if they are even open idea of donating and/or donor milk. but it did make me wonder about this question. is there anyway that my cousin (with the 3.5 month old) could produce milk specific for her niece? I just recently suggested the idea of my cousin even donating for her, which I think she might be open to, I am not sure at this point.

so anyone know?

Holy smokes, I never thought of that...hmmm, tough one!

I'm gonna guess no, not really, since I believe the specific milk content is mainly the result of a physiological process and not so much a psychological one...but who knows. I'm always amazed with BFing.

I will say that my sis nursed DD when I first went back to work (inconjunction with my EBM) for about 4 months and so she got a lot of *bonus* immunities from my sis that are different from mine. To this day, it seems like DD has always been the healthiest kid I've ever known.

I don't have resources to back this up, but I believe it is true that if she nursed the baby directly, then, yes, antibodies would be produced specific to that baby. The baby's saliva is absorbed through the skin of the nipple and helps determine what antibodies are produced.
