I have a bunch left over- we use it in our perennial beds--can I use it in my veggie garden, too??

I put it around my hills of winter squash and pumpkin, to keep the weeds down. I don't mulch my other veggies, so I don't know about them.
I don't know for sure, but it might overly acidify the soil as it breaks down...I've seen it recommended as mulch for blueberry bushes.
You can if you want to, but I find it very prickly. I don't like to be poked while I garden...so we only use it on my flower beds for that reason.
I don't know what pine straw is .....

But if it is the same as pine needles it is an excellent mulch when you need to protect plants against slugs. Slugs won't cross the stuff.
