Candida Help- aka. I need something to help with nerves/moodswings..??

1687 Views 28 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  lectrice
I have been having AWFUL mood swings, short temper, everything gets on my nerves, moments since I had Adriana.

My marriage is in jeopardy over this, my kids are unhappy... and most of all, I am unhappy with me.

I want to have the doctor prescribe something, but what is a good medicine to take while breastfeeding?

(I took Zoloft during pregnancy, and it did nothing!)

TIA~ Jodi

Have you had your thyroid checked? I was so tired after the birth of my second child and got very moody, nervous, anxious, etc. and it definietly was affecting my family relationships. I found out I was hypothyroid and once that was treated - everything else went away.

Also, you might try St. John's Wort. As far as I know, it is safe while nursing - it takes about a month to work though.
Maybe evening primrose oil? I take it for pms, but any condition hormone related may benefit. I'm sure lack of sleep from having a new baby at home only aggravates it- try and take care of yourself and get some rest, ok?
look up candidiasis or candida or yeast online. Yeast overgrowth (not just vaginally) can cause depression, mood swings, terrible PMS...I know cause I have all of the above

GOOD LUCK! PM if you want more info

How do I tell if I have yeast? I don't have any symptoms of yeast. (But then again, I only know how to check for vaginal & breast)

I will have the doctor check my thyroid. Thanks for the suggestions!
The symptoms of candidiasis, and their severity, vary from person to person but the main ones are: chronic fatigue, especially after eating, depression, craving for breads and sugars (yeast eats sugar), extreme mood swings, feelings of rage, especially after eating sugary foods, feeling "drunk" after eating a meal high in carbohydrates (candida's waste is alcohol), hypoglycemia, excessive mucous of the throat, nose, and lungs, chronic fungal infections of the skin (jock itch, athlete's foot) or vaginal/oral thrush, diarrhea, anal itching, short-term memory loss, feeling "spacy," and bloating or gassiness after eating.

In addition to these, lymphatic swelling, difficult PMS, night sweats, chest and joint pain, memory loss, incoordination, blurred vision, intense, random headaches, intermittent vertigo, insomnia, sneezing fits, and increased food allergies are also fairly common. A person tends to get extremely sensitive to damp, mildewy environments and, sometimes, to extreme humidity as well as perfumes, colognes, and smoke. Since candida can infiltrate the urinary tract, acute kidney infections, cystitis, and prostatitis are possible.

While these symptoms can indicate other illnesses, if certain factors are present in one's personal history the symptoms are likely to indicate candida overgrowth. These factors are:

Prolonged, or repeated, use of antibiotics, corticosteroid drugs, and/or birth control pills, at any time in the past,

a diet high in processed sugars which encourages candida growth, and

preexisting immunosuppression caused by drug or alcohol abuse, multiple blood transfusions, debilitating illness, organ transplants, or chemotherapy. All three are NOT required to bring on a case of candidiasis: excessive "sugar binging" can cause it just as surely as antibiotics can. Pregnancy also predisposes women to the condition since pregnancy alters the body's delicate hormonal and pH balance: candida thrives in an alkaline environment.

I copied and pasted that from http://www.sumeria.net/health/cadida/html

Ps: they spelled candida wrong

If you have otehr symptoms along with your mood swings...and they match up with the candida symptoms, you should be concerned about candida. if you need more info just pm me

kaya's mama, is there a way to get tested for candidasis? i have probably 2/5ths of the symptoms mentioned, and have heard that it is common for people with fibromyalgia (which i have). i've been mood swingy and irritable lately.. and are there any natural treatments?
my suggestion is to go to a homeopath and get a constitutional remedy.Going the conventional method means just drugging yourself and a slew of side effects. I took Zoloft at one time too.Did nothing except caused health issues(same with paxil, prozac, and goodness knows whatelse I took ). Definately have some tests done to rule out thyroid and yeast issues.Get some good probiotics(kefir is good).Best wishes to you!

First I recommend reading The Yeast Connection or Candida Albicans. See if your library has them.

I have candidiasis so bad that I have anxiety, constant feelings of unreality, horrible spaciness and the list goes on. I have Zoloft from my doc but I refuse to take it.

I am a few steps away from seeing our homeopath. I was trying to avoid the costs but I read online that homeopathy can help with candida. Chances are, if you have fibro. you have candida. My stepmom has fibro and has like 95% of the candida symptoms. I have read stories online about people who were treated for yeast overgrowth and ended up being "cured" of fibromyalgia. Candida overgrowth can cause auto-immune problems like fibro.

There is a specific yeast-free diet you can go on. I have been on it for 2 weeks tomorrow. I am still not cured of my brain fog but its because I have had yeast overgrowth for 5 years. I can trace my symptoms back to when I got pregnant with Kaya. The yeast fre diet is in the two books above. It basically consists of proteins, veggies, some grains and nuts, water/herbal teas, stevia as a sweetner.....its a totally natural way of eating. My cravings are gone. I have lost about 8-9 lbs in 2 weeks because food has not become the center of my life. I don't crave anything. I just eat what is good for me (on the yeast free diet list) and my intestines are really liking it
And the big thing is I am not bloated 24/7 anymore.

There are many supplements you can take from grapefruit seed extract to caprylic acid to garlic. Acidophilus plays a big part in reestablishing benefial flora in your intestines. Start your search online. Consult your doctor. I have spent countless hours online desperate to know how/why/when I will have my mental clarity back. The Candida Albicans book tells more about supplements and minerals/vitamins.

here is a link to a simple spit test you can do at home. I did it and failed miserably. I did just get threelac in the mail and started it yesterday. Its mentioned in the bottom half of the webpage. If it works I will let you know!

thanks so much kaya's mama!

here is a list of the symptoms i do have:

chronic fatigue, depression, craving for breads and sugars (yeast eats sugar), extreme mood swings, feelings of rage, especially after eating sugary foods (occasionally), short-term memory loss, feeling "spacy," and bloating or gassiness after eating.

difficult PMS (sometimes), chest and joint pain (a bit), memory loss, incoordination, blurred vision (rarely, but on occasion), random headaches, insomnia, sneezing fits, extremely sensitive to damp, mildewy environments and, sometimes, to extreme humidity as well as perfumes (god, yeah, ugh.), colognes, and smoke.

ugh. i had a list of the leftover ones (the symptoms i don't have), but somehow accidentally deleted them.. i don't have any of the big ones, or the obviously yeasty ones.. also, non of the following is true for me, except that i have used corticosteroids (for eczema) in the past, probably 10-20 times as a child:

Prolonged, or repeated, use of antibiotics, corticosteroid drugs, and/or birth control pills, at any time in the past,

a diet high in processed sugars which encourages candida growth, and

preexisting immunosuppression caused by drug or alcohol abuse, multiple blood transfusions, debilitating illness, organ transplants, or chemotherapy. Pregnancy also predisposes women to the condition since pregnancy alters the body's delicate hormonal and pH balance: candida thrives in an alkaline environment

i did, however, get fm around the time i birthed my first son (he's three and a half), so i wonder if it's related..

i will definately try the spit test tomorrow and see what happens.
thanks!

i have candidiasis!!

okay, within 20 mins, all my spit was at the bottom of the glass.. i'm assuming (since to have it remain floating and intact means one doesn't have it) that that means it's toward the more severe end of the spectrum?

so... that would be so so cool if my fm went away because of this. fm is such a weird disease with so many treatments/theories etc etc.. it seems impossible to treat effectively.

i am going to research homeopathics first, i think. my midwife is friends with a homeopath; i'll ask her, and check a homeopathic website i know of and let you know.

hey, maybe we should start a candidiasis thread or something.. like a support group

JodiM, sorry for taking over your thread. have you tried the spit test?

NP!

Yes, I took a spit test this morning, and all I can say is.... EEEEWWWWWW!!!!!

I think I am overridden with yeast.

I bought some GSE today, and I am going to get some Acidopholous on Tuesday... I am going to start dosing myself up with that ASAP.
mamabeard: pregnancy predisposes you to it!
I have to find a link to this site I saw last night. Said Fibro is really just a list of symptoms. If you have them all, then the doctor will diagnose you. Notice there is no definitive test for it.

JodiM:
GSE is very strong....start out slow. I did 5 drops my first day and BAM I was soooo dizzy and exhausted. Take it slow cause when you kill the yeast, the release toxins. Be sure to drink lots of water

BY THE WAY:
I discovered I also have parasites or pinworms too

They too can cause similar symptoms. Its so gross. THey are in everyone really.

I'm sorry that WAS really gross. And low and behold, thanks to the internet I don't have pinworms....I kinda guessed but then I compared a picture on the web and well what I found looked nothing like it. Turns out the yeast is coming out and causing itching........threelac must work cause on the diet alone I didn't have this happening.

Again I am sorry. I just thought I'd share my experience cause well so you know ahead of time what to expect. I am so glad no one I know personally reads this forum cause I am so embarrassed. WEll thank god I don't have to worry about those nasties.
Not to sound like a hypochondriac but this sounds familiar to me too. I guess I will try that test in the morning.

But how scientific is spitting in a glass?? How does that work???
heh. sorry kaya's mama, i meant that like as in: uh oh, i probably have pin worms too? do i really want to know? you didn't offend me at all!

i am sort of a hypochondriac too.. and i especially get grossed out at lots of little living things... the thot of my body being a home to zillions of little yeasty dudes has been kinda grossing me out all day.

good to know that threelac seems to be working tho!

oh, and my ex is pretty sure he has it too (he's gonna do the test tomorrow), he has even more symptoms than i do..

abimommy, i was wondering about that too.. i almost want to ask folks to spit in a glass and see what happens..

one question. does it seem odd to have yeast overgrowth if i've never had a yeast infection or thrush? i mean, if it's to the point of being systemic, or whatever (causing fm), then wouldn't that have happened by now? just seems odd..

oh good I didn't want to really scare anyone away! I want to keep this discussion going cause everyone should be concerned.

I have candida in my system but I do not have a vag. yeast infection and haven't for a while. I have thrush in my throat but not thrush like in a baby's mouth....I have clear papules which my doc diagnosed as candida. I also have a coated tongue. check out your tongues!
See if there is a white or yellowish coating. Mine definitely has it. I am pretty sure my Kaya has yeast too. I wish I knew about yeast before all this hell started.
