I ordered flea meds from Petshed and received a free sample of Canex wormer. I'm pretty sure Clive has worms. So instead of going to the vet I'd like to try giving him the pills first. I'm confused though. Here's the dosage info:

For weight of 30-40kg (he weighs 65lbs) it says 4 tablets for medium size dogs or 2 tablets for large size dogs. Why is the dose higher for a medium size dog the same weight range as a large dog? And is a Lab considered a large or medium dog?

I would think at 65 pounds he'd be considered a large dog, just because other deworming medicines call over 50 pounds large.
As to the dosage, it makes no sense to me.

What type of worms do you think he has and have you had his stool tested?
If you put him on Heartgard (heartworm prevention) it also contains a dewormer for roundworms.

What makes you think he has worms? If you're seeing worms, or you're seeing a potbelly, I'd take in a stool sample. He could have hookworms or tapeworms, which Canex will do nothing for. Canex is ONLY for roundworms.

In terms of dosage, if you let me know the active ingredient (it should be pyrantel) and the dose per tablet, I can figure it out for you.

It says it's for Roundworm, Hookworm, Whipworm, and Tapeworm. DH says he thinks Clive has worms and he's the one who does poop duty. I'll have to ask him what he saw or thought he saw.

It says one tablet treats 10kg (I just saw that). So I guess he's about 30kg.

The ingredients are Pyrantel 143mg, Oxantel 543mg, and Praziquantel 50mg
