I seem to be prone to cankor sores in my mouth. Withds1 they got more frequent the longer I nursed, past about a year. Here we are with ds2 and I've started getting them again. I haven't found anything. Help?

I do not know if it's okay for pg or nursing moms, but before dd, right before I was leaving for my wedding/honeymoon, I developed a really painful cankor sore in the very back of my mouth/throat. A dr at a walk in clinic gave me this stuff called Aphthasol (amlexanox oral paste)- it was a gross paste that I had to keep on for as long as possible without letting saliva wash it off a few times a day. It worked GREAT, though. It stopped the pain instantly and the sore went away really fast. Good luck.

I am also prone to canker sores. I take acidopholus (2-3 times a day on an empty stomach) when I feel one coming on and it really helps. Also the homeopathic remedy for canker sores ( is it Borax?) really helps me. good luck , those things are horrid!

How interesting, I've gotten a few since I started nursing and I rarely get them!

For me, they are directly linked to nutrition. This makes sense if we're both getting them while nursing, as our bodies are being depleted of nutrients during lactation. If I'm not eating healthy or taking a vitamin, I get them. If I start taking vitamins again, they go away. I've heard that its a vitamin B deficiency that causes them, but that may not be accurate.

Anyway, I don't know how your nutrition is but I thought I'd mention it

How interesting! I never associated them with nursing, but I never had 'em before then! Mine seemed to come in cycles while I was nursing, and I would always get several at a time. And hey- now that I have been done nursing since April, I've had them very infrequently. Let's see what happens with #2!

It's interesting to hear about the association with nursing. I had an outbreak a couple of years ago, and though I didn't know it at the time it coincided with my getting pregnant with ds#2. It sounds like it could be hormonally triggered, although the nutrition connection makes sense.

Thank you so much!
I definitely agree it's a nutrition and hormonal thing. I also notice that no matter when I get them during the month they heal up as soon as I get my period.(too much info?) So I always know when to expect it to get better. But I just got this one 2 days into my period, great. A whole month of it? help!! I took a Bvitamin as soon as I read that, what do you do with the tea tree oil, apply directly, dilute it somehow? I've tried tea bags before but didn't seem to work. Okay, I'm feeling too lazy to look it up, but what are naturally occuring sources of B vitamin so I can include it in my diet and maybe not have to take a pill. Maybe that's what I give to Andrew in my breastmilk and my body gets shorted. I'm so hopeful, it's already not painful so hopefully healing.

Yes, with the tee trea I would just apply it straight and gently dot on your canker sore with a K-tip. Oh yeah, another thing that I have used in the past was a bit of hydrogen peroxide. Just pour a little straight on, or I've also diluted in a bit of water and just swished it around in my mouth for a minute or so and then spit it out. Glad to hear it is already not so painful.

Hello,

I have a friend who has oral herpes and she dots the spot with a q-tip that has alcohol on it as soon as it starts to tingle or as soon as she sees it coming on. It's helped her to keep hers under control pretty well. If she catches it as it's coming, it usually doesn't really surface. If it does, she just dabs a few more times and it goes away pretty quickly.

Hope this helps!!

Hi all, my 5 year old has canker sores and she eats a healthy diet with few sweets. Question: does the tea tree oil or hydrogen peroxide sting? I would like to try that since it is really painful and obviously bothering her but I don't want her to freak out from more pain. So far have given her two doses of Grapefruit seed extract, (terribly bitter even with honey). Poor love, I really need to find a natural cure for her.
