Dd is up right now with an unproductive cough. Normally I would (of course) give her some kind of cough suppressant...except that dh heard how an infant died b/c they weren't able to metabolize dextramorphan (ingred in meds for coughs) and "why take the risk" that dd wouldn't be able to either...even though she has had it in the past I think twice.

I want to give her SOMETHING but the only home remedy I found involved some herb root (I don't have) soaked 3 days in honey which she can't have!

PLEASE PLEASE tell me someone has any ideas for helping her to stop coughing!!! I feel so horrible for her!!

A cool mist humidifier might be helpful for an unproductive cough. Also, keeping her upright as much as possible. I hope someoone has some even better suggestions and that your l/o feels better soon

I'd try a homeopathic remedy before going to an OTC type. I'd also try Bach flower if needed. Hope you find something for her!

I would give her Vita C mixed with bm each time just before latching on.

And I would also take it just prior to nursing her.

Best is SA (sodium ascorbate).

Here is where to get SA and how much to give -

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...03&postcount=2

Good for your dh for looking out for his lo. They have already admitted that all that cough med did more harm than good. Why not go to the hfs and see what they suggest?
