Has anyone moved to CA recently (last year or two)? We are thinking about moving, but are at the end of our lease on our minivan, so we're trying to decide if we should buy here in Ohio or buy when we get out there. We are likely buying a hybrid, so I don't think we would need to worry about emissions tests when we arrive in CA.

What do you think? Does anyone know?

Thanks!

I think you are good on not having to have an emissions test for the first couple of years on a new car, but I think you have to pay a fee if you don't buy one that is manufactured to California's emission standards. My husband and I moved to CA 9 years ago, and if I recall correctly, I had to pay a special one time fee for bringing in a car that wasn't to that standard. My husband's had been made to that standard, so he had no fee. My car passed the emissions test fine, it was the same one we had in VA.

I think with a new car, you don't have to have an emission's test for the first 2 years.
