It's pretty do-able- my Nan lived in the city with no car when I was growing up. She just bussed it to the grocery store, and also was able to buy a lot at market and at a little grocer up the street. The bus system is decent, at least it was when I was riding (a pretty long time ago, like 15-20 years, so I guess I'm not the best source of info
) Good luck and welcome to Lancaster! It is a cool little city!

It's a lot easier to go car-free in Lancaster if you live in the city or on the bus route. I lived in the suburbs and it was hard.

hi everybody! the kids and i are here now. dh will be here right before we close on the house on the 22nd of july. we will be living right in the city over near F&M college. i grew up here so i am staying with my gram while we wait to close and move in. any of you mccaskey grads? that's me - class of 94.

i posted this on the ap families in lancaster thread, but thought i would post here also - anyone game for a playdate at buchanan park wading pool? it's open weekdays 12-5. went yesterday and loved it. free for those who don't know about the city park wading pools. lancaster recreation commission runs them, staffed by college students.

had a run in with one of the lifeguard girls about NIP yesterday. what a hoot! left it on great terms with her, so it's all good now. she panicked about the "impressionable young boys" that would see me nursing the the baby while my preschooler was in the pool. i informed her that that was precisely why they needed to see it - b/c they are impressionable and they need to learn that nursing is the way to go. we talked and got friendly so she isn't huffy anymore about the mom who refused to comply with her request to cover the baby!

anywhoooo....we wanna make friends and play! come on out!
