I can't speak to an infant seat, but we've flown numerous times with a convertible and it's really not too bad. We try to pre-board if possible because we always end up blocking the asile while installing the seat.

The hardest thing for you will probably be installing the seat and holding him at the same time. I've always traveled with dh so there were two of us plus baby.

I flew solo with dd, a bucket seat and a base. As the flight attendant to carry the infant seat to your seat for you (they have always been more than willing with me). If you are comfortable with it, they have always offered to hold dd for me while I fastened her seat in as well. Otherwise... take a blanket and put it down on the seat next to you for dc to lay on while you take care of fastening the seat. Make sure you preboard because it does take extra time to get situated. It really isn't as daunting as it seems. Dd and I just flew this week. It is a bit tougher now that she is bigger. Her seat is bigger and so is she and she can't walk. The flight attendents are always there to help though. Take advantage of them.

I would skip taking the base and learn how to install it w/out it. It's a lot easier that way when travelling.

We gate checked our car seat and stroller. They were waiting for us as we got off the plane. Last things on, first off. Our car seat got a bit dirty, so I would put it in a bag.

Once we got our rental, I got the seatbelt set up. We had to use the locking clip, but our graco has one on the bottom. We made sure to check the angle each time, and that the seat belt was tight, but it was not that big a deal as the clip basically kept things in place.
