I looked and didn't see what forum this would go in and I am upset so be gentle.

My husband was just in a car accident. He was alone in our van, but our older kid's carseats and the baby's base were installed. We have 2 Safety 1st Apex seats and The baby is in a Graco Safeseat.

Do they have to be replaced?

As far as I know, even if the children weren't in the car seats, the seats must be replaced. Your insurance should cover the cost.

I hope your husband is ok.

We have a brand new Family Safety Forum. I'm going to move this there so our resident carseat tech can help.

He's okay, at least he seems fine. I'm just really stressing about the money for the deductible and replacing the seats if necessary. He isn't home yet, I haven't seen the damage.

Hi! Glad to read he is ok. Here are guidelines to helping you determine what to do and to provide ammunition should your insurance carrier try to deny you replacement coverage:

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/inju...raintReUse.htm

A minor crash does not necessarily mean automatic replacement. If you meet ALL of the criteria listed, then it is considered a minor crash. If not it is considered moderate to severe and replacement is recommended. Also please remember to replace all seatbelts in use at the time of the wreck as well as any airbags if deployed and sensors inside and out if in an affected area. These are all one time use products.

Who was at fault? Has "fault" been determined?

And remember that the manufacturer's instructions superceded NHTSA's recommendations, so if your manual says to replace (and they will, based on the seats you listed), then replace.
