Hi there. Have a quick question about car seats.
We live in the US, but will hopefully be going to UK in Dec. for a holiday to visit my family! It's been way too long ( 12 years!!!!)
We have 2 car seats for dd's , with latch system , which we use in our car.
Is the same system in place in newer UK cars?
Will we encounter problems using our car seats? I think they are Graco brands, but not 100%.

Thanks for any help. I realise as I type this that it seems like a silly question, but I am really paranoid about carseats being installed properly!!

TIA Jasmine

I've no idea what a latch system is... most of our car seats fit with the seat belts unless they have fixed bases. Do you know what type of car you will be driving over here?

Not sure what Isofix is, will have to research it a little bit.
In the US there are LATCH clips and hooks that are fastened to the base of the car and secure the car seat really well.
I think the system was introduced in 2003, but the cars manufactured before that use the seat belt method.
Not sure what car we will be driving in UK, but I guess that the seat belt method will work out ok too!

Thanks

ISOFIX = LATCH

However, not all new cars have ISOFIX and neither do they have a top tether. The problem is in Europe ISOFIX (LATCH) is fixed, ie they don't have the strap kind of LATCH that we have in the US which requires the use of the top tether, they have metal bars, so installing a US seat with webbing LATCH connectors without a top tether, is not okay, so you would have to use the seat belt. But (yes there's another but!), European cars don't have locking seat belts, so you if your car seats don't have a built-in locking clips (as all Euro seats do), then you are going to need to use a locking clip. After I have confused you with all this, the above only applies to forward facing seats, as rear facing Graco seats can't be tethered anyway, so installing US LATCH seats with ISOFIX would be fine.
