I keep finding conflicting information on this. Can anyone say one way or the other?

Could be dairy, could be corn. I've seen it as both.

So is there a way to tell on the label? Will it fall under the "contains milk ingredients" ?

Nope, I have never seen ingredients listed for caramel color (even if it's made from an allergen.) You pretty much have to call the manufacturer and ask.

Could also be wheat or sugar, though those are more rare.<br>
I've never seen ingredients for caramel coloring either. You have to phone the company.

Yeah, or that. Anything that says "color" or "flavor" is always suspect. We avoid them all. Well actually, we avoid all packaged foods, and it makes it a lot easier. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngtongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick Out Tongue">

It is my understanding under new FDA laws that anything in the US w/ caramel color would not be a dairy ingredient or other major allergen or it would have to be labeled as such.
