First time gardener here and I have no idea when to harvest my carrots!

Any ideas?

I plant in May & harvest them in October. We do eat some before that. teh greens are usually quite long(around 18"). If you move some of the dirt away from the carrot you can see how fat it is. Most are 1 1/2-2" wide before you pull them.

I start planting mine in April, and will begin harvesting by the end of July. By that point, they are probably 3/4-1" wide at the top. Give them about three months of growing time and then, as the PP said, push back the soil a bit to see how big the root is, and pull it when you think it is big enough.
