I've been introducing solids really slowly to my ds who is now almost 8 months old.

Carrots seem to really constipate him. We laid off them and he was fine. He absolutely loved them though so I tried again. He got so constipated it was awful.

It just seems strange to me that carrots would do this.

I am breastfeeding on demand and always before giving solids. He has solids maybe twice a day and when he has had carrot for one meal I have given him something like peas or pear for the other.

I just don't get it!

How much did he eat? Did you give him any water? Did he feed himself or spoonfed?

I would lay off the carrots for a few weeks if it were my kid, getting constipated is definitely a reaction and one that he is likely to grow out of.

Thanks. He didn't eat a huge amount. Maybe a couple of ice cubes.

It was spoon fed. We've been away for a month so I am just starting the self feeding thing now we are home!

I haven't given him water yet. I am wondering if I should or whether the breastmilk is enough. I don't want him to cut down his milk.

My DS, who is now 4, had the worst time when we introduced carrots. I remember that I was totally shocked that carrots would do that, since I had never heard of them being constipating. It was only a problem when they were first introduced and he had only carrots for a few days. After that, he was fine when he had them every now and again. Now at 4, they are one of his favorite veggies and we have no issues with them at all. It will be interesting to see if DD, who is 4 months, will have the same problem in a couple of months.
