DH and I installed the carseat over the weekend. We traveled out of state a few hours -- you know how sometimes you pack an umbrella just to guarantee it won't rain?
Well, I insisted we bring the carseat just in case I went into labor and delivered away from home -- no way DH was leaving me in some random hospital to buy a carseat!

And then we had some time to kill, so we just installed it. And every time I saw it after that, I'd marvel and say, "We have a CARSEAT in our car. We are the kind of people who have a CARSEAT in their car. Because they are PARENTS. With a BABY. Who goes in the CARSEAT." I love trying to wrap my mind around this. After I got it in there, I was sitting next to it, and DH got in the driver's seat for a moment, and I pointed out to DH that it would be just like that in a few weeks, driving home from the birth center, me in the back seat, looking down at our new baby in the carseat (hahaha, I am making myself cry, typing this!) Anyway, for now it has a stuffed animal tiger in there. Not a bad placeholder, but I bet our baby will be cuter!

Now I want to go get it checked, because I'm not sure we did it right. It seems kind of wobbly. http://www.seatcheck.org/ is a good resource I found if you other mamas are interested!

Oh Mimi...you made me cry reading your post. You are just too cute for words. We are waiting to get our carseat. A friend has it, and I can't wait to get it and get it put in the car. I've been telling him I want it for weeks now just in case I go early, and I'm kind of anal about being prepared for this baby even though I haven't packed my bag yet. i just really want to make sure we have all the absolute neccessities BEFORE the baby gets here. Call me crazy! LOL

Awww-that's great! When we first put our car seat in, I remember thinking, "You know, those people with the 'Baby on Board' signs might not be as moronic as I thought." I wanted every car on the road to know our precious baby would be in that car.

Pretty amazing, isn't it! We installed ours this weekend too, and dh and I went through the same thing, only for us it was "Holy cow, look at that. We are going to have TWO kids. Kids, plural! Yikes!"

We were not completely prepared when ds was born (early!) and dh had to install the carseat in the hospital parking lot. I guess poor sleep-deprived, stressed-out dh didn't read the manual and we had a big discussion standing out in front of the discharge area about whether it should be forward-facing or rear-facing, with him trying to argue about the physics of a crash and me telling him I didn't care about the d*** physics, I just knew it HAD to be rear-facing.
Didn't want to have to worry about not having the carseat ready this time.

I went on a major nesting spree this weekend, washed, folded, and organized all the baby clothes & newborn diapers, put together the cosleeper, and installed the carseat. I am ready! At least ready with the details, whether or not I'm ready for the labor and parenting a newborn & toddler I don't know...

Awww! That's so cute

I considered bringing one when we went out to get firewood this past weekend, but I figured my DH would flip out if I did. He 'doesn't want me to have the kid in the forrest' and to ensure that I didn't, he decided I would do no lifting of logs or anything (that brought on false labor last time we were out there).

Tangent, sorry...

Anyway, yeah, I'm all excited about the car seat also! It just seems so official then...

How funny, I remember those feelings a few years ago. Now I have to agree w/ the mom who said wait till you have 3 in a minivan, lol! Bravo for you for wanting to get your seat checked, it's the best thing you can do for your child IMO. Even non-ftm need to go, we see just as many mistakes w/ BTDT moms as new ones.
