I have DD in a bucket seat (rear facing, of course) and DS in a Wizard front facing. Currently, I have DD in the middle and DS behind the passenger side. I had always thought that no one should go behind the driver (I had heard the term "death seat" and that scared me) but now (a) DS is swinging his leg into his sister's seat and kicking her and (b) I just heard that car seats should NOT touch (which they do.) So, who goes where?

TIA

Car seats can touch, and the seat behind the driver's seat is no less safe overall than the seat behind the passenger's seat.
If the kids are bugging each other, I would probably split them up and put one in each outboard seat. They are both in seats that provide excellent side impact protection and that extra space will keep them from hurting each other.

I wouldn't worry about touching, but I think distance between siblings in a car can only be a good thing. I'd put your ds on the passenger side, where he can see more, and your dd behind you, but some of this may depend also on where your fuel cap is- my asthmatic child does better in a car when he's not on that side.
BTW, I think the passenger side is generally more dangerous. Think about it- if someone pulls out into you, which side is it more likely to be?
