What do you think of this case? I apologize if this has been posted already, I couldn't find it on the first 3 pages.

I found the suggestion that pre-existing mitochodrial disease might make a child more vulnerable to problems post-vaccine really compelling, I would love to hear other thoughts.

Your questions are good. Your title though...govt. is not linking vaccines with autism. The link is mitochondrial disorder and autism which is proven. I'll try to explain.

What would you like to know?
My son has mitochondrial disorder. Anything that stresses the body can lead to metabolic crisis and damage like this child suffered. Anything can include vaccines, fever, flu, any illness, vomitting, sleeping through the night, being overheated, and on and on.

My son's geneticist recommends flu shots for that reason (because flu can be very damaging and some kids don't recover) but does not want his patients to have live vaccines. So live vaccines (and fevers) can cause this issue. So can other illnesses. My son didn't have shots but he did suffer damage during series of ear infections...treated holistically and actually that probably did more damage as we didn't treat fever. He's much more mildly affected than this child. But the condition this child suffered is common in mitochondrial disorder.

Anyway, my son also has autism symptoms from mitochondrial disorder. Ear infections brought a lot of that on. But ear infections didn't cause his autism...mitochondrial disorder did. Same with this child. Autism caused by mitochondrial disorder; it's very common. This child did respond that way to vaccines, though, because of mitochondrial disorder. So live vaccines can be damaging to mitochondrial patients. So can getting sick. Did that help?

So is he recommending that all children be tested for mitochondrial disorders before vaccinating?

NOT!

Still one size fits all!
Well, it's a start. There does need to be a way to see who would be more apt to have serious side effects and who wouldn't.

Wouldn't change my mind about vaxing, though. I still, even if my children tested as ok for every vax, would not get them vaxed. But, I am sure that there are parents out there who would feel better about vaxing if they had that info.

Well, they spoke for almost thirty minutes about the November autism-vaccine case which was conceded by the government.

They discussed mitochondrial disorder, and how she either had an underlying mitochondrial condition which the vaccines severely aggravated causing "autism symptoms" or the vaccines actually triggered the mito disorder to begin with which then led to autism symptoms.

It's going to be on Larry King Live tonight.

is this what is going to happen:

first of all, the pharmaceutical manufacturers/alphabet soup agencies would have to concede that vaccines can cause adverse effects for a certain percentage of the population.

then, there would be a mad scramble to figure out who would fund the research and development of testing. certainly pharma would not want the onus put on them. OR, their finance department realizes that this is a huge income stream (newborn testing of every single baby...cha-ching!!) and their public relations department realizes that they can spin this to make them look like the saviors of the world (cha-ching again!!)

and then if someone comes up with a reliable test for reactions, i am guessing that a fair percentage of the population would not be vaccinated.

in addition, i would guess that families who did not vaccinate their older children due to increased risk of reactions would see how healthy their non-vaccinated children were even despite their 'vaccine deficiency', and would continue to decline vaccines for subsequent children.

in which case, their whole 'herd immunity' concept would go out the window...and isn't that the point of the whole vaccination program?

there will have to be some type of compensation fund still in existence for those people who do have a vaccine reaction despite testing.

there will be an international uproar as this testing will not be extended to the millions of people in developing nations, as they will continue to vaccinate without testing there.

what else am i missing?

YES!!!!!
I was so excited to see this on the news today. When they began the conference I turned it up and had DH watch it too. Finally, a court conceeded that vaccines caused autism!
I'm so sick of the CDC and the medical community telling parents theres no connection - I hope this case finally opens their eyes.

I will be watching this on Larry King tonight.
...My 2nd DD hadnt been right (ADHD) since her last set of shots. I tried telling her Nurse Practitioner - just to be told it couldn't possibly be linked to vaccinating - Despite the fact it happened a few days afterwards. I haven't vaxed since. I also have a happy and healthy 'organic' baby boy.

The parents and their lawyer also mentioned there are 5000 cases like this one currently. Hopefully this will show that something is 'going on' with these vaccines - and those of us who choose not to won't be judged so critically.

I happened to turn CNN on today and caught the tail end of this. The woman actually mentioned VAERS and encouraged parents to report vaccine reactions!

She mentioned that even though she had been a nurse she had never heard of VAERS and that most pediatricians don't bother reporting vaccine reactions...

Well, does flu cause autism?
How about ear infections?
Fever?
Sleeping through the night?
Vomitting?
Cold weather?
Anesthesia?

All those things and many, many more can and do cause metabolic deterioration and the same result as the vaccine may have in this child in kids with mitochondrial disorder.

My son has mitochondrial disorder. Detioriation for him happened with ear infections...his autism symptoms weren't caused by ear infections (or untreated fever) but mitochondrial disorder. But ear infections, fever, etc. certainly caused him to have metabolic worsening.

Mitochondrial disorder has a strong correlation with autism symptoms.

To say that this is a concession that vaccines cause autism is not true. Mitochondrial disorder does cause autism symptoms though. No question with that. It's not particularly rare though. At the very least 1 in 1000, and very likely more common than that.

My son's geneticist recommends that his mitochondrial patients avoid live vaccines because of the possibility of worsening (we hadn't had them anyway). He recommends other vaccines, though, like flu as the flu can have the same terrible outcomes for a child. So it's not vaccines damage all mito kids (or flu) but that certain ones are a risk. There are all kinds of risks for these kids though. And it's progressive.

I still don't think this means vaccines cause autism. I liked the sear's reaction to this because it calls out the fallacies being thrown around on both sides.

An infection in someone with this disorder can cause autism like symptoms as well.

Her case is non-representative of a healthy child getting a vaccine. To me, it's just another risk assessment. Just as a immune problem or allergy would be.

We already know that vaccines can aggravate an underlying (and especially if undiagnosed) condition. PIDs are one you hear about a lot in connection to this kind of issue.

Hopefully what will come of this is more parents being aware that undiagnosed conditions and vaccines tend not to mix if they involve the immune system, etc.

I appreciate sbgrace's continuing effort to talk about mito disorder and how vaccines and other issues can affect a child with this:
http://www.mothering.com/discussions...86&postcount=2
