My sister is a public school teacher in Orlando and over half of her kids are out sick today. Apparently it's not just her school but a city-wide thing, at least in East Orlando. I'm not sure if it's the flu or what, but I just thought I'd spread the warning/news.

I'm not a teacher, but have a girl in a 3 yr old preschool program out in Lake Mary. She has brought home 2 colds within a month and a half and her teacher has told me this cold season has been just terrible.

So, I second the OP's comments.

Not in FL (NY!) but saw this in "new posts." We have been constantly sick since early Feb. It is CRAZY. The reason I've heard is that the "herd immunity" to flu strains is much lower this year than usual because the flu vax was only 40% effective. Not to start a vax debate but this is what several people including drs have told me. We have just been unbelievably sick as are lots of the kids and teachers at DDs school.

I'm in Lake County and work for the government...three of our guys called in sick today, one just went home, and the other is sick here at work spreading his germs because he doesn't want to use any of his sick time. :

I'm trying to be optimistic about it, and working hard at keeping my immune system boosted!

we're in CFL and my 2 girls have had a tummy bug, 1 since Sunday the other since Tuesday. DH had it yesterday, but just for 24 hours. I haven't shown signs yet. It's going around, one of my employees had it go through her family too.

DS was running a fever of 102 all day yesterday and all last night - broke this Am though and he is right as rain today - aside from refusing to sleep tonite (still up right now!) probably from all the extra sleep he got yesterday.

Not real symptoms - just a fever. He did complain of a tummy ache - but no symptoms. He was running around playing and having a good time even with the fever so who knows. thank goodness for BFing, and Herbs for Kids immune supplements!

My friend lives up in Orlando (I think he passed it on to DS) and was horribly sick last week - but only for 2 days.
I am just hoping it doesn't make rounds thru the whole house.

Yep, I'm in CFL and DH and I both have a nasty cold.

Meowee - You should visit the vaccine board. Lots of info on the flu shot. I think this has nothing to do with the flu shot failing since most people that are sick don't really have influenza and use the term 'flu' as a catch all phrase. That is just my opinion though

There were a couple of schools in Brevard that closed for 3 days to try to stop the spread of a bad "bug" a couple of weeks ago.
IMHO, people's immune systems are just not up to par. Not enough real food and too much pharmaceuticals in our municipal water supply.

We had the flu here in CFL the first of the month (high fevers, chills, sweats, snot etc)... all 4 of us got it within 2 days, dd, then me and ds that night and dh the next nite... We were feeling better in 3 days. (prolly from our homeopathic stuff) Then about 18 hours later we started over with secondary crap... I had bronchitis and wound up on abx to kick it quick since I am pg and asthmatic. Dd had abx too for a sinus infection (her first abx ever at 3yo!). She did the "best" of all of us recovery wise. It was NASTY. BUT - at least we did it altogether instead of spread over a month with each of us taking a week. We were back in "regular life" after about 10 days total.

I can't tell you how much pee I coughed out with that bronchitis pg with my 3rd kid! LOL! Dh was making such fun of me :
