Does anyone know the normal cervical position during pregnancy. Non-pregnant, mine is usually so high I can hardly reach it at all. Now at 9w0d, it's so low I felt it by accident. I'm also having weird, yellowish-brown fluid. Of course, I'm afraid I'm miscarrying. I don't think it's bleeding. It doesn't smell like blood at all, but it's this color. I was just gonna try not to worry--until I ended up feeling my cervix today by accident. Help!

From what I understand your cervical position changes daily even in pregnancy. It's also normal for your cervical fluid to increase and possibly be a bit different in color but I don't know about yellowish-brown. I suppose I've had something like that when it's dry but not while it's still wet. Hopefully someone a little bit more knowledgeable will respond.

Just try to relax and not stress about it.

I have heard that cervical position doesn't mean anything and changes frequently in pregnancy. Yellowish brown fluid could be old blood (which is a lot less alarming than new blood) or it could be just odd discharge. I hope everything is ok.

I wish I could call my midwife and cry on her shoulder about how worried I am, but my @&%@$! phone company doesn't seem to think that getting my service back up after a storm yesterday early morning is a priority

The cervix can change a lot in early pregnancy. Usually it raises slightly and becomes softer as a sign that you are pregnant -- but you already know that you are. In early pregnancy it seems to move around a lot and can't be much of a predictor of the health and well-being of the baby.

Sometimes women who are miscarrying can feel their cervixes open. So, if you have noticed a change in the cervical opening it might be telling. If not, you haven't described to me anything that I would think was cause for worry.

I have noticed that some women will spot around 8-9 weeks or so. Are you cramping at all?

Sometimes when I am caring for women at this point in pregnancy who are concerned about miscarrying, I send them to the lab for hcg tests to see if the levels are appropriate for where they are in their pregnancy -- if the first number comes back ok, then we do another in two days to see if it rises. If you were seeing a hospital-based midwife they might order an ultrasound as well, but usually the hcg will tell the tale.

Oh, and I just wanted to say that I am sorry that you are going through this and so isolated. It is really hard to be in the spot that you are in, where you just want to know whether or not everything is ok and the answer to that question is not so easy to come by.

Maybe you can make a plan to get to a phone in the morning and just try to focus on that time as a point of some resolution and try to nurture youself for a little bit tonight to work towards sleep.

I think it will be ok. I don't think it was open. I would kind of like an HCG series, but I haven't gotten my insurance sorted out yet for this pg, so I gotta just wait and see.

Anyway, yeah, I might try to call Kate (yeh..I interviewed with her

)tomorrow, but I'm so phone-phobic that it would just be even more stressful to try to borrow a phone or find the last working payphone in the state than to just wait and see, at least until my phone comes back.
