So on Saturday, DD2 got into DD1's chocolate advent calendar and ate "like... a lot" (her words). She hasn't had milk or soy (the two allergens that were in it) in about a year and a half, except a chocolate chip cookie that she stole a couple weeks ago, and that reaction seemed pretty minor - on night fussy sleep). So Saturday night she woke up once. And I thought, "Great!" Then Sunday morning she pooped 3 times (the last time she forgot to flush, so I saw that one, and she had visible blood (dark red) mixed in with the poo. The only other time she had blood in her poo was when she was 1 and had Amoxicillan which she had an allergic reaction to (rash and vomiting). Then Sunday afternoon she developed a fever and threw up overnight on Sunday. Fever broke last night during the night sometime and she slept through the night last night.

So normally she reacts to things for 3 nights. Is the blood from the milk and soy (both were considered "mild" on her ALCAT test)? Or was that the precursor to the virus that she got Sunday afternoon? [DD1 who is hardly ever sick came home sick from school on Monday in the middle of the day, so I'm sure it was a virus.]

And except that the virus was mixed in there, she slept well for the 3 nights. So the only thing is the blood in the poo. But that's a "worse" symptom right? I was really hoping that after 6 months (after the ALCAT, where we took out more foods; she's had a restricted diet for the last 2.5 years) we'd get to start adding foods back in.

Ugh. It stinks when trials are muddied by viruses and other things.

I guess I would consider blood a "worse" reaction, because it seems like other inflammation has to be happening for it to get to that point (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But maybe it only got to that point because of the virus.

Oh, I HATE when that happens and you just can't tell. Are you brave enough to let her have "like....a lot"
of chocolate again in a week and see what happens? I think that's what I would do, once she no longer has any trace of the virus. The blood in the poop would be considered a worse reaction in my opinion but if she was vomitting from illness there could have been all kinds of yuckiness happening in her intestines too, yk?

I think I would try again in a couple of weeks as I don't think you can make any definite answer w/ the virus happening at the same time.

kathy, that keeps happening to us too. i try something, we have a terrible night and then i notice dd has a tooth that moved down or something. its sucha pia when you cant tell.
with that said though, whenever there is a change in her poop, for us it means a food reaction. she has reacted to tons of the green segment of alcat - in fact, most of the green segment. i mostly eat things on the yellow portion because that's the least obvious reaction for her
.
sorry, i know how meticulous you are with their diets. it seems that your little dd has a chocolate tooth - i dont blame her

It's just odd because she doesn't usually have poop issues. She has eczema/folliculitis for corn, and sleep issues for everything else. Corn was the only "green" on the ALCAT that I knew she had a reaction to. She's been fine with all the other green foods (DS too). Some of the yellow are okay for her, but not all. And DS has most of the yellows on his list, but some of them are horrible for him (eggs, soy, cranberry come to mind). We're still on the rotation (since June 2) they gave us. And still not really seeing any signs of improvement. Though I just tested DS with chicken broth the other day because it would be nice if I can get that one back in for the healing properties. He said his stomach hurt when he came home from school the next day BUT he's been saying that for a month (and I think it's just because he doesn't want to do his homework or bring in wood for the woodstove) because when there's anything going on that's fun, he's fine.

I forgot that I tested her on the water buffalo milk about a couple months ago and she had diarrhea from that and horrible tantrums the next 3 days, so maybe dairy is still bad. This one actually might have been covered up by the virus. She was just laying there a lot so maybe I got a tantrum free reaction because of it. She definitely has a chocolate tooth (she has Koala Crisp though!). I just thought that after spending $1000 on ALCAT in June, and following the rotation for 6 months that we were going to get somewhere, and it seems like we're stuck. And not healing.

im so sorry, mama. i know how hard you work on the rotation, cooking the wonderful and varied foods, helping others on here and with your recipe box...its gotta feel frustrating to not notice improvement. but all of this is not for nothing. your los are learning such life lessons about health and nourishing foods. And they see the love and work you put into every little bite they take.

Thanks. Some days/weeks/months/years are just really frustrating. At least they're all sleeping these days. I'm cutting my grocery budget. DH still has a job. I should count my blessings. I just want to heal them. I want them to be healthy, normal kids who can eat anything (but choose to eat the healthy stuff).
