Do you knit items to donate to a charity? What do you knit and where do you donate it?

Just looking for ideas........

This summer I'm knitting dishcloths as an "extra" for our church's food pantry summer lunch program. Each week the families in the program get a bag full of lunch fixings. There is usually some "extra" each week like toilet paper, cereal, etc. One week it will be dishcloths!

My mother knits dishcloths for charity too!

The way she does it is that she has a basket of them at our Church and people just leave their $2 per cloth. This year all of the proceeds go to the local Red Cross homeless shelter. Last year the proceeds went to the Heiffer Project.

I have been crocheting squares for afghans. AFSC collects and assembles them into complete blankets for shelters in the Philadelphia area. A great windfall happened for us this spring. A friend of my mother's turned up with 70 garbage bags full of acryllic yarn. Her elderly neighbor passed away and the family wanted it to be used for "something." Needless to say we have passed over 1,000 skeins of yarn into the hands of crafters to be put to good use!

I have knit hats for chemotherapy patients and donated them to the local hospital -- people also knit hats for preemies, I will probably do that next!

Also, Project Linus is a charity that collects blankets for kids, google them and you can get info.

The LYS I go to has a program where they give you yarn, and you knit hats for the local hospital nurseries. When you bring in a completed hat, they even give you a dollar off coupon.
