I had a charting question, since this is only my 3rd month charting (and I do it on paper), I'm not quite sure what to do in this situation.

Here's the issue: if I forget to take my temperature as soon as I wake up, and get out of bed, then remember within the two minutes, hop back into bed and take it.....is the temp still valid? Should I adjust it down a little? By how much?

Here's the backstory, in case it matters. I've been super vigilant with temping as soon as I get up, which is usually between 630 and 730. Well today, I remember taking my temp around 6 when my DBF got up to let our puppy out. Then like 30 minutes later, I get up to pee, and as I'm peeing, I'm thinking, wait a minute....did I actually take my temperature? So I go back into bed immediately (and our bathroom is not even 6 feet from my side of the bed....we have a miniscule Manhattan apartment), and check my thermometer, which should have my last reading on it....and it's from yesterday! I think I DREAMT that I took my temperature....I even had a temp in my mind (97.5 to be exact)

The reason this all matters so much is that I'm pretty sure yesterday was O day. I got a positive OPK 2 days before, but the day after it there was no temp jump. So today, my temp was .7 degrees higher than yesterdays. But now I'm not sure if I should even use that temp because I got out of bed!

I'm so mad at myself. I really want to know if I ovulated!!!! Please let me know if you guys know what to do.

Thanks!!

i would keep it in the back of your mind without actually adding it to the chart (on FF you can add it but say 'discard' so it's recorded but doesn't count) but just test again tomorrow morning and see if your temp stays high. one missing temp, even on O day, won't make a huge difference. you'll need a few high temps before the chart will predict an ovulation date.

Maybe write it on the chart, but instead of a dot, make it a question mark. I think .7 degrees is a big jump for having just gotten out of bed for 2 minutes. If it's still high tomorrow, I'd count this temp as accurate.

the couple to couple league's NFP book says they tested to see if what happened to you mattered. They had women take their temp in bed, then get up immediately and do jumping jacks for 2 min IIRC, and there was no significant difference in temps. So, I say, count it even though you'd gotten out of bed.

If you're looking for post-O temps, and getting out of bed made you colder and the temp lower than you real basal temp, and the temp you got after getting back in bed was still higher than pre-O, that's a good sign you did O.

As a matter of fact, since I temp right when baby wakes me up, and I don't wanna take to long to go to him, I often get up, temp while in the bathroom for 2 min, and my temps turn out fine.
