I just started charting my temps about a week ago. Here's my question.

Sometimes my DH's alarm wakes me up an hour before my regular time of taking my temp. When I take it right then, it seems irregularly low, but then if I go back to sleep for an hour and take it again, that 2nd temp seems to fit in better with the trend of my chart, but doesn't that break the "need to be asleep for at least 3 hours" rule?

7:00am(early) 8:00am(normal time)
97.6 ---------------->97.9
97.7 ---------------->98

Thanks!
(sorry if the answer is in TCOYF, I haven't finished it yet)

Ya know, I've never followed the "need to sleep for 3 hours rule" (honestly I didn't realize their was one). I try to make sure I take it before getting up and moving around for the day, but it's a complete crapshoot how long I've been asleep beforehand. I still manage to get fairly consistent readings through, but I do temp vaginally. Oral temp readings were just too erratic no matter when I woke up.

Not much help, am I...
I'd say go with the time you normally take your temps if they appear consistent to you.

I never sleep three hours straight! I always wake up and then go back to sleep. If the alarm goes off, wakes you up and then you turn over and go back to sleep then use the temp from the later time. If you get up with DH for awhile while he gets ready and then go back to sleep, use the early time.
