In-season fruits tend to be cheap. Ds also likes veggies (especially carrots) with various homemade bean dips (homemade is much cheaper then store bought!) His favorites are hummus and white bean with sundried tomato (that last one is not so cheap). I've also make a white bean/rosemary dip that is pretty cheap (and yum!) Black bean/chili dip is cheapo too.

Those bean dips sound good. Do you have any recipes you would be willing to share?

They are all from my cookbooks, the white bean/tomato is from Moby's Teany book (he uses it in a white bread sandwich-yuck! much better as a dip), my hummus recipe is from Peta's compassionate cook cookbook, the white bean/rosemary is from Vegan Family Favorites, the black bean one is just a black bean/plain (soy) yogurt/chili powder/cumin combo that I throw in the food processor w/o measuring

Graham crackers with peanut butter (or without)
Popcorn
Mandarin oranges
Applesauce (unsweetened) with cinnamon and sprinkles (dd's favorite)
Muffins/bread (I love cranberry-orange bread or even cornbread)
Chex Mix-type snack mix (you can make it however you want)
Pretzels with mustard (dh loves this)
Pudding
Fruit leathers
Crackers with cheese slices/cream cheese
Carrots/celery with dip
"Quesadillas"--shredded cheese melted in tortilla w/ or w/o salsa/sour cream
Toast with butter and jam/cinnamon and sugar/cream cheese/peanut butter/etc.
Cold cereal
Fruit: in summer, we love sliced strawberries w/a sprinkle of sugar, blueberries with plain Cheerios, and peaches any which way; in colder months, apples with peanut butter, pears, clementine oranges, etc. Bananas are good any time and you can do a lot with them--banana bread, banana and pb sandwiches, etc.
Hard-boiled eggs (we like them sliced with a little salt)
