We are paying $240/mo for our cell service now and it is ridiculous. I have to have cellular internet access and a blackberry for work and my husband has a standard cell phone. We share 2000 minutes. Obviously we should be able to get a better deal. Where should I look? Do I need a blackberry plan and a separate wireless broadband plan (that is what I have now)?
Thanks!

I don't know about a Blackberry plan but can you reduce your minutes? Look at your bill or call customer service and ask them about all the fees you have. We reduced our bill by taking off things like unlimited texting. It was more money for that than we spent paying for each text.

Ouch, that's a lot of money! DH and I will be getting new cell phone plans through tmobile when I upgrade to a blackberry in a couple weeks and it will only cost us $100 a month including insurance on the phone. It's a family plan so all of the minutes to DH and anyone else on tmobile is free, plus we are paying for a moderate amount of minutes (our cells are not our primary phone numbers so besides calling eachother, we don't call a lot of people with them.
: ), the data plan for the blackberry, and 200 texts per phone per month.

We basically looked at our current minute and text usage and are getting the plan that most closely matches that.

Oh, and I don't think you need a separate broadband plan. At least I don't think I have to when I sign up on tmobile...just the $35 blackberry plan which has unlimited web on it.

If you have to have it for work, why aren't they paying for it?

A lot of companies do not do this anymore. My hubbys company (a MAJOR computer company) stopped paying for anything as of 4/1. Their theory was you would have a cell phone, a land line and internet access anyway. They do have some lame cell phone plane you can have, it is their phone and plan, but everyone who has it cant get it to work, so he hasnt switched yet.

I could go on and on, but the point is, he has a job. He hasnt it lost it to a Costa Rican yet, so we are happy. It is all about the health insurance at this point.

And when we complained about outsourcing, we were told, hey all the companies are doing it.

Guess not.

And for the part of the team that lives in CA they were told they had to work from home and yet they dont cover any expense (except that worthless basic cell phone). Not everyone likes to work from home, some people like to go into an office. Too bad! And some people actually dont have internet access at home. Crazy, but true.

I could go on and on and on. But I dont know if I am even supposed to be saying anything

My DH has to have a cell for his job (law enforcement) but we pay for it ourselves. They pay for his pager. We get a discount on service with AT&T through his union, but I thought a lot of companies made thier employees pay for their phones.
