Is there a way to check to see if your ovulating or about to without doing the temp taking and ovulation sticks?

We dont have the money to buy the sticks (and DH still is hoping it will take a while to get pregnant as he is "scared" still about another one)
And I dont sleep through the night so my temp is always all over the place. DD still usually wakes over night to nurse and I usually wake to go to the bathroom anyhow. Sigh....
Any ideas?

Oh...and I dont really want to have to read a book. I know taking charge of your fertility is supposed to be good...but honestly its a lot of information to soak in and I dont really have the time to sit down and study it. I know I know Im being lazy. soo what do you suggest? Fake it?

Thanks
Kathryn

Cervical mucous

If it's like raw eggwhites, then it's time to hustle

Yep. Check that CM. Plus there are websites you can surf to get the general idea.

I've had success temping even without sleeping through. It's still worth a try to stick it in your mouth around the same time every AM and see if you notice a pattern.

If you don't want to have a paper chart to get lost, scribbled on, spilled on, eaten by the dog, you might want to try ovusoft fertility awareness software. You enter in your data and it keeps track of it for you. You can use cervical mucus only if you don't want to temp. Plus it contains all sorts of nifty stuff like what your EDD will be based on ovulation instead of the stupid LMP method the docs use, what dates you would have to ttc if you wanted a baby in X-month, a decent primer on how the method works and what's going on with your body in each phase of the cycle. It's pretty cool, and very easy to use.

I don't own a copy of the book either, but I've used FAM both with temps and with just CM.

Hey I just noticed your name is Kathryn too.

It's so rare to find someone who spells it "right" :LOL

I agree...we both spell it the "right" way. My youngest has the same name, as does my mom (we all have different nick-names though)

What is even funnier...my Dh's name is Brian too...spelled differently but still wild!

That is too funny!

My Bryan has gone through times where he was nervous about having another one too. He's a great dad though.

To check for impending ovulation, look for watery or eggwhite cervical mucous (ewcm) as previous posters have suggested. You can also check your cervical position but this may be a bit harder to detect. You will have to check consistently every day of your cycle for at least one cycle, probably more, to get a feel for it. Hard, firm and closed or medium, medium and slightly open means not fertile. Soft, high and open means fertile.

The only problem with this is that it doesn't tell for sure that you have ovulated. It only tells you that your body is trying to ovulate. There is no gaurantee that you will. The only way to know for sure that you have ovulated besides having blood tests is to chart your bbt. It's really quite easy and you don't have to read a book for it. You don't have to sleep through the night. You are supposed to get at least 3 hours of consecutive sleep and take your temp at the same time every day. This never works out for me and I've still had succes charting. Check out the websiteFertility Friend.
Good luck.

The CM isn't an absolute like the pp said. I get the eggwhite stretch a mile stuff and I'm not ovulating.

BTW, mine is spelled "right" too.
