I have been exclusively breastfeeding our 4-month old daughter since birth. I had an awful experience with our first pediatrician, who kept recommending that I switch to formula for a problem that was actually created by oversupply. I ignored this advice and switched to a family practitioner who is much better. Now, I'm losing this doctor (moving to a practice not covered by my insurance).<br><br>
Here's my question: Are there any doctors in the city (North Side) who are supportive of and knowledgeable about breastfeeding? My friend recommended someone in Evanston, but that seems too far to go.<br><br>

I've been using Illinois Masonic's family practice on Ravenswood for a few years now and am really happy with everybody I've seen there. They are definitely supportive of breastfeeding and of patients making informed decisions.

Dr. Minkus in Skokie is also wonderful. We loved him. It was just too far to keep driving. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"> But he's great and very supportive of breastfeeding.

I like and respect my pediatrician and would definitely recommend her. Dr. Kamala Ghaey (pronounced Guy) at KidzHealth. And while I would say she's supportive of breastfeeding, I do sometimes feel like I am more informed and educated about than she is!

We use Dr. McDermott at Swedish Covenant. She's a DO family practice doc. She's been great so far...DS was in the special care nursery for a few days after birth, and she was really supportive and encouraging even though she wasn't his doc at the time. She seems supportive of breastfeeding, but I haven't asked her a ton of questions about it. She's also willing to do our delayed vaccination schedule (that was a biggie for us).

That was my guess too. That's who we use and we've been really happy. I know it's a drive for us b/c we're on the NW side, but it's worth it for the limited # of times we've gone.<br><br>
I've heard good recs about the ravenswood practice too.

Audrey Stillerman at UIC is family practice, she had homebirths and breastfed her youngest for 3 yrs, I don't have her current office info, but when we lived in the loop we loved her.

We see Dr. Minkus in Lincolnwood. We live in Andersonville and it's about a 20 minute drive depending on traffic. I love everything about him! The whole office is really laid back. No one has ever given me trouble for co sleeping, delayed vaxing, extended breastfeeding, etc. They're great. I also like the fact that he is such a well respected physician in the medical community. I know it sounds silly, but I want a pediatrician with clout. Anyway, we love Dr. Minkus!

<br><br><p>Excellent!!!  She sounds like a wonderful option for my coming twins, and car-free family... right down to location.  The distance is one that's reasonable, via public transit, or walking.  I just can't have to take a really long train ride to get twins to the pediatrician, or no ability to walk it....  but I'd love a doctor who had done those things for her own family.</p>

<p>We've used Ettner for about 7 years now. He's great. He's up in Lincolnwood now, on Lincoln Ave, about 1/4 block south of Touhy. We're about 4 blocks north of Wrigley Field in Chicago and it only takes 30 minutes normally to drive there, 45 if traffic is really heavy or there's construction on Western or Peterson. We had such a hard time finding someone who would work with our non-typical ways <img alt="lol.gif" id="user_yui_3_7_3_1_1367671892667_1309" src="http://files.mothering.com/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="line-height:1.231;"> when our oldest was a baby that we've kind of attached ourselves to him, until he retires or moves far far away.
