howdy mamas,
i am looking to join or start a big onion playgroup. i live in rogers park with my partner and our son, oscar, who is 6 months old. the babe is achin' for some playmates and i am in the same boat. let's start a movement--our kids will take the city by storm! i look forward to hearing from fellow city dwellers.

Hi Gemma.

Well, I am not actually in the city, but very near suburbs...Oak park to be precise.

If you're not picky on where people are from, I would be interested!

no rules on playgroup membership...even if you don't live in the city proper!
i am without a car, but i know the public transportation routes well and can
travel too. as far as meeting, i figure it would be easiest to meet at someone's place. i'd be happy to host, we live across the street from a great park and the beach. we could switch it up too, if there are other mamas that would like to
share their space. oooh and then there have to be some choice field trips to
take...as autumn begins tickling my nose with brisk breezes, i feel an intense need to find an apple orchard/pumpkin patch in the near future!

The green line is practically outside my door, so I know that it might be a hassle but public trans IS a possibility. I have to get familiar, since all I have used is metra, I am embarrassed to say!

I would love to be a part of a play group, soon. I am due any day so my involvement might have to be postponed for a while.... but if you want let's keep in touch! Feel free to PM me.

I would love a field trip sometime, too! Do you like the zoo? Ds just loves animals....

hey, I like the idea of a playgroup. I am also in rogers park, west rogers park to be precise. I have a 5 mo old ds and a 2 yo dd. So it would be great to get some toddlers in on the fun as well. I think I may know where about your located mahboob it sounds like a park we go to quite often. Isn't Rogers park a great and diverse place? We are super happy in our neighborhood and always looking to make new friends!

alright ladies! so, it seems the next step would be to discuss availability. weekdays are best for us, oscar has his big nap in the morning, leaving our afternoons open. the rest of this week is crazy, but i could do next week. perhaps we should vote on where to meet...here are my ideas.

a) the lincoln park zoo
b) a good park (there are so many, we could pick out one that is relatively central to all of us)
C) one of our homes

what do y'all think? i agree with bridget on having babies and toddlers in the group--a big, inspired kiddie tirbe. i have a friend in wheaton that has two boys, 2 years and 2 weeks. i know she would love to get in on this action.

My three month old is still too young to "play," but he takes it all in, and why not get him started early? I've been hungry to meet with like-minded mamas. We're located right downtown, but don't mind driving to Rogers Park (I'm a former Evanston-dweller).

Weekdays are fine, how about a park or the zoo while the weather's still nice?

Hi all,

Any day except Thursdays work for us. The afternoons are also more predictable for us. A park while the weather is nice would be great.
i thought i would post this proposition. how does wednesday the 10th work for all of you. the park that is across the street from us is called loyala park. it's at teh intersection of sheridan and greenleaf. the forcast is for sunny skies and temps n the 80s, so the park would be perfect...a good playgroud the lake as a backdrop...oooh can you see it. i thought that if the weather should turn sour we could always use our apartment as a back-up...or at the very least, a place to change diapers and make a snack. how would 2:00 pm or around that time work... let me know.

hi ladies, well it looks like I'm going to have to bow out of the playgroup for now. our schedule is different from the little baby set. At this point afternoons are not great for us my dd takes her nap then usually mornings are better. my poor baby son is kind of napping on the fly in the mornings when were out and about. But I will probably run into gemma in the course of everyday life because we are over at loyola a lot. That is a great park. well bye for now.

Sounds fun!

If I am not in labor, or just had a babe, I would love to join in! (I'm "due" sunday)

Any advice as to how to get there via public trans?

the morse stop on the red line only a few blocks away from the park. it would be a long trip for you mamaTT...it takes me 30 minutes to get downtown from the morse stop and for you coming all the way in on the green it would be over an hour. if this too much, maybe we can schedule the next meeting in your neck of the woods. let us know what you are up for...i would be happy to come down and give you a helping hand if you need it once you new one arrives. pm me if you want. the park isn't huge, so i think it should be rather easy to spot each other on wednesday. we could all meet up by the baby swings.

i thought a check-in might be a good thing to do to see if anyone was planning on coming out to the park tomorrow. i would love to start a e-mail list to make this process a little less of a hassle. i'll compile it if you all would just drop me a line with your plans for tomorrow. hopefully we can figure out a gathering in the near future that would work for more of the mamas. i know there is a festival in grant park/lincoln park zoo on the 20th of this month that would be fun. my e-mail address is [email protected]
