How likely is it for my kids to get the chicken pox from a little girl on a Thursday...they were over for Thanksgiving and didn't leave our house until 8pm...and she broke out w/the chicken pox Saturday night/Sunday morning. They were together for 6 hours inside and the little girl was drooling a lot b/c she's teething.

We re-exposed the kids the Tuesday after she broke out w/them...my kids were drinking out of the same cup as she was and they were in close quarters for one hour.

Does anyone have any stories to tell regarding exposure and contagiousness and how many days before the cp broke out were your kids exposed?

That would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure you need open blisters to pass the virus on. So if your kids might pick it up, it would be from Tuesday's exposure. There is a 2 week incubation period, so if your kids did get it, they would break out early next week.

CP can be contagious up to a couple of days before the rash breaks out. It's possible your kids could get it from the pre-rash exposure but unlikely unless there was actual exchange of fluids via sharing drinks, etc. or there was lots of sneezing or coughing. I think you were smart to get together again after the rash appeared. Good luck! My ds just finished with CP. It was easier than the common cold! Shorter too.

Very likely, imo, as cp is spread by respiratory droplet. They played in close proximity for a long duration and were exposed during the sores. They are most contagious in weeks 2-4 after exposure, iirc. Avoid any airplane travel, nor exposure to pregnant women who haven't had cp, or immunocompromised family.

Have you and dh had the cp?
