I think my youngest (10 mo) was exposed to CP on Tuesday. He was around a child that day who broke out on Thursday. My question is do I have to keep both of my ds away from others starting now and for how long? I'm supposed to be visiting my grandparents on Sunday and a new cousin but I don't want to expose anyone to it (especially the elderly or the newborn) that may not want it.
But does this also mean I have to keep my kids inside for the next 21 days???
It's contagious a few days before the outbreak of spots. The outbreak of spots can be as early as 10 days after exposure. So 5 days after exposure it will not be contagious. On Sunday the virus will still be in the liver and won't have reached the respiratory tract yet.

Thank you! So if he doesn't get it between 10 and 21 days or so (after exposure), he likely won't get in then am I right?

Yes, if h e doesn't get it by 21 days he's not likely to. My three were exposed last year and not one came down with it : They were sharing glasses the day before spots came out and everything. Sorry! We're in southern ontario. And it's definitely going around, so that's too bad.

I guess we'll see, it would be a good time to get it out of the way for us, but I exposed ds1 a couple of years ago and nothing happened.:
