My children are 4 and 2. Both are vaccinated against chicken pox. They both currently have the chicken pox. When we went to the pediatricians office we had to walk up the back staircase and the room had to be quarantined. The nurses looked at us like we had the plague. The neighbors are walking on the other side of the street. What gives? Long gone are the days when parents asked if their kids could come over to play BECAUSE your kids had the chicken pox. I don't get it? I feel dirty.

That is the way you are supposed to feel.

All childhood diseases were normal and a part of maturing. They were considered 'a right of passage' until the vaccine for each individual infection came on the market.

Funny how we are being told not only what to do but also how we are supposed to feel.

Long story...

See, you just know the wrong people! Around here, you would have countless invites to come play!

Hugs mama. Hope you all have an easy course.

I think it was just because it was a medical building. It isn't their intention to possibly infect those who aren't immune with chicken pox when they've already got something else going on. Especially if there were really small babies or elderly people out there in the waiting room. I would hate to see a newborn with chicken pox--that would be hard on everyone.

My 12 month old has pox right now and my dd will soon follow Im sure and yesterday we went to the clinic to confirm it--they also quaranteened us and had us use the back entrance when we left...note to say also that the doctor said we DID NOT need to avoid grocery stores or anything like that. I think the quaranteening is just to protect those who are already sick.

just a thought!
Make sure your doctor appropriately noted both their files because when the second dose varicella gets mandated in Michigan, your children will be excluded if there is an outbreak. You need to be able to show a doctor's note for evidence of immunity.

thanks. I did ask about the second vaccine and we were told that it won't be necessary and that both charts would be noted. Both boys are doing fine. I swear their enery levels have doubled. Aren't they supposed to be sick?

My son has/had them last week. He's finally over them (they are all scabbed) so we went to an appointment today and I told the doctor (an orthopedic specialist) he might have had them and he was like "UH OH! Did he not get the immunization?" I was like "no, but it really wasn't a big deal... "

I am so p.o'd. I just took my son (who as of saturday was diagnosed chicken pox) to our family doc to make sure it was noted in the charts and he said it wasn't pox and was an allergic reaction in his opinion. he offered to blood draw if I wanted to. I said I'd wait and see if dd broke out first.

his spots never scabbed over they are just kind of muttling away. this sucks...i thought we were over it.
