I just wanted to say how disturbing I find the fact that
your "featured product" is Child Line, an organisation that
clearly preys on parents fears.

The number of missing and kidnapped children per year that they
quote on their website - 1.5 million per year - is inflated and very
misleading. The whole website is clearly intended to create a feeling
of panic so that parents will feel they have no choice but to send
Child Line money. It is very manipulative and exploitative.

I'm surprised and disappointed that an organisation such as Mothering
would not only carry advertising for such a company but would actual
give them "featured product," status.

Wow,

That really bothers me as well. Did you pm Cynthia about it? Sometimes things slip through the cracks.

I don't deal with the advertising on the website, only that which is here on the boards. So your complaint should better be directed to the Mothering office, particularly the advertising department - [email protected]:

I'm not sure how frequently they check their email box at that address but I have notified the officee of your complaint so perhaps it is an issue that will be discussed at the next staff meeting. Give it some time.

I know at least a response of "We have received your message and are considering your complaint. Thank you for writing." would be nice. That's something I will mention as well.

What site are you referring to - Mothering or the Child Line site?

Would you please edit out the "phoney" comment? We must be careful what we say about folks. We could easily be threatened with a libel suit for hosting such comments, about this company or any company that would be prepared to take it to their attorney.

If you'll email me your particular concerns I will personally talk to Peggy about it.

Sorry about using that word but I was angry when I posted.

I was refering to the people who run the Mothering site. I am upset that no one ever responded to the email I sent regarding the original post.

As I said if you will forward me your email I will discuss it with Peggy myself. Back in September when you brought this up we were under a deluge of SoBigF virus emails - literally flooded by them. Email was a nightmare and it's very possible that yours didn't get attention in that virused emails avalanche that hit us and in the subsequent shutdown of some of the Mothering addresses.

I did send the email to advertising, as you suggested. I don't believe you suggested that I forward it to you.

The text of the email is the same as my original post. I'll also forward it to you.
