I've been told by DCF that I need to go to the child support office for an upfront cooperation interview. Does anyone know anything about these? I've been trying for days to get through to someone to find out if I need an appointment or if I can just show up and get in to see someone quickly. I've got to arrange things with stbx to even have a vehicle to get anywhere so things are tricky at the moment. I'm also not sure if this is something I want to be dragging the kids to. I'm trying to keep them from knowing about child support and other details as much as I can. My 6 year old has already asked how I am going to pay the bills since I haven't had any luck in finding a job

No idea about the office visit, but have you filled out a Child Support Worksheet yet? I'd imagine it would save you a lot of time if you had that upfront. link

That's filled out with the rest of the divorce papers, but none of them have been filed yet. I've got enough other stuff going on and I'm not going out of my way to file papers for something he wants done. Probably pissy of me, but oh well.

Oh god, good luck with that.

Sorry to be negative but the county I am in...

I just went in to the office but it was a LONG wait.

The process itself... hmm.
Took a year before Florida went after my ex in NC.
They sent the police to his job and tried to arrest him
for not paying child support (which is not even what I wanted.)
But it was ok because instead of my ex's name, they came to arrest
(at the time) my current husband who lived with me in Florida.
Go figure.

No, it is NOT a place you want to take a kid.

Hope

Thanks, at the moment he is giving me money orders and we want to keep the state out of it as much as possible. I know they will take a chunk if they get involved in the entire process. I've never had any problems with getting money from him and we are working on joint custody when I get a job, but he would still be paying the same amount of support. However since I don't have a job at the moment I'm getting a big chunk of money in food stamps and I'm on medicaid so I've got to follow through with all the hoops dcf wants me to jump through. After jumping through all their stupid hoops I'm not left with much time to look for work or a cheaper place to live

Well, you have 2 options: 1) Ditch the food stamps or 2) let them take the child support directly from your ex, take the food stamp $$s out to the extent that they do, and then get $$. Part of child support is used to pay the state for food stamps. And while our office in my county is plenty okay for a kid to be present, it does take most people qa while. I had a private order and they've yet to enforce it now 15 months or more later?

You all may not have a choice. IIRC, the state WILL get involved if you are receiving financial aid such as food stamps and Medicaid.

Here is a link to the Florida DHR website; you can probably find some of the answers you seek in the FAQ.
http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/childsupport/

HTH and best of luck!

As long as he is paying me the money and they have proof of that then they won't be forcing it to go through the state. I'm getting about $800 a month for 3 kids based on them living with me full time. With no job that easily qualifies for food stamps and medicaid for all of us. We qualified for food stamps when he was still living here because he doesn't make that much in construction I don't see a point when I would need state help enforcing the order, but I'll deal with that if such a point comes about. My getting a job would have more to do with getting food stamps or my contuing to qualify for medicaid. The hoops I'm having to jump through are making it difficult to look for work at the moment. I've also got to wait until the end of July before I have an appointment to see about daycare since I have no money to pay for it.
