Wow.
There was just a quick newsflash of a new story coming up, saying that a group in Wisconsin (my state) is trying to propose a law that would state that if a heterosexual couple who was married did not have children - their marriage would be annulled.

Looking for links now, will post them asap.

It sounds like this initiative in WA.

This is awesome.

It's proposed by gay rights groups - as they are not allowed to be married because they can not procreate - neither should straight people be allowed to.

(If they choose not to procreate, or can not....within 3 years of marriage.)

How horrible. Just because gays are not allowed to marry (they should be), no one should be able to dictate that ANYONE be required to produce children or have their marriage annulled.

You know, I didn't have children for 6 yrs. Not by choice. We tried and I had problems. I cannot see this actually becoming a law. What a crock!

This would be the same as making a law that unmarried couples who have children should have to give them up for adoption.

Its not going to be made a law, it wouldnt go through in this 'democracy' - but it's making a statement.

They are saying - "the only reason we're not allowed to get married is because we cant have kids? Well, other infertile couples or couples who choose not to, ought not be allowed to marry either."

Take a look at the other thread. There is no expectation that the initiative will get passed They are trying to make the point that marriage is not solely about procreation, which some proponents of gay marriage rights have suggested.

I will definitely take a look in a minute, toddler in arms.

But - of course they're Very aware that marriage is not just about children - I dont think that was ever in question, (thus why gay individuals want the right to marry, they want that commitment and bond, as well as EQUALITY among ALL consenting adults.)

ETA - wait, which other thread?
(This is a Huge board.)

Also, OT but your kinders are Gorgeous - that picture of Aidan is absolutely breathtaking. Hes really lovely.

I realize that it is not going to be made law. AND I understand the sentiment behind it. But, there are people who actually think that you should not marry (whether hetero or not) unless you produce kids. I think that is wrong. Just wrong.
