Where is the best place to buy childrens' clothes? When I was young I used to shop at C&A, Hertie, Schneiders, and Karstadt.

Is C&A a good place to purchase childrens' clothes? Also, what are the special rain pants called? I think they are plastic or vinyl...

Also, is wienerwald still around? How are prices?

Latzhosen. You can get them with warm filling (for winter, cold spring or autumn days) or without. Most places like Karlstadt, Kaufhof....carry them.

IMO, C&A and H&M have become very pricey. There's almost no price difference between their products (but there is still a quality difference) and products from Kaufhof, Kaufland and even Zara. You can get decent clothes online or via catalogue from Jako-o, and the prices are about the same as C&A or H&M.

The BEST place to buy children's clothes is to check out the Kinderbazaars. They have sizes up to 180, very good quality and inexpensive prices. Usually held in February, March, October and November. If not, you cna always stock up during the sales (end of January, early Feb. and July).

Hi Holly!

Since there is no price difference between the several retailers...but there is a quality difference....where should I go to purchase clothes for my little guy who will be 5 in July?

Could you give me, in your own opinion, a quality rating?

Also, where are these kinderbazaars? I will be coming in May...so I have missed the good times for shopping. I do want to buy a least one pair of latzhosen (do you suggest more)...or really one for summer one for winter. I also need shoes for the little guy. Is there anything you recommend I bring from California that may be difficult or expensive to buy in Germany?

a "latzhose" is something like this (usually made of cotton):

i'm not sure what you mean with "rain pants". waterproof pants to protect clothes against getting wet?

these are called "regenhose", "matschhose" or "buddelhose" in german.
regenhosen are available in this bib-overall-style or regular pants cut. i like them more without this bib and brace stuff, because it's easier to (un)dress for the child when there are no straps.

Yes, I really like those yellow ones which you showed in the photo. Those would be perfect for my son. He likes to play in the rain and puddles and I want to find these as soon as I get to Germany. I need these and boots. So, I am hoping that somewhere downtown I can find these for a reasonable price.

How are shoe prices? He will need sandals for the summer...and I am wondering in general what prices are like. I also want to purchase a pair of lederhosen!!! That would just be so cute!

i don't know if they have them all over Germany, but I loved Ernstig's Family(I think that's it). they have some adults clothes too, and the product change every week. But the prices are great and the kids stuff is very cute. Also Toom Markt was good for basics, shirts, pants etc.

I am in the Netherlands, but I just bought my kids rain overalls from H & M last week because I saw some German children wearing the same pants and having a great time in the rain. They cost 20 euros and the fabric passed the OKO test for harmful chemicals. H & M has stopped selling vinyl clothing--good news for the environment!
