Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is OK to see a Chiro during pregnancy concidering adjustments etc.

I always went to the this great Chiro, and now that I am pregnant he saw me and adjusted my neck which I was not concerned off. When I told him that I have some lower backache and they dicovered a Luteal cyst on my right side, my chiro told me to lay on my stomach and he used one of those instruments that stimulatates some points on my lower back (do not know the name ut it but I think they use it to put ribs back into place to place too) and later on he used this handy vibrating massagers (thumber, precussion massager) on my lower back. I am worried that the vibration and stimulation could have harmed my baby. They are pretty strong!

I do believe that he is competent but still have my doubts that this is gonna harm my child as he wants to do that throughout my pregnancy to avoid pains and varicose vains etc. What do you think I am 8 weeks Pregnant. Those vibrations felt good but the baby must be dizzy as heck in there.

Please let me know what you think maybe you can soothe my mind.

Thanks
Claudi

I don't know the specifics, but I went to a chiro last pregnancy. Its how I coped with SPD. They also use chiro to turn breech babies, so obviously during pregnancy. I would definitely be sure he knows you are pregnant and if you are worried, be sure that he had experience/training to adjust pregnant women. But it should be fine.

Oh and <ahem> "pleasure" vibrators are supposed to be fine for pregnancy, so I'd assume that whatever he used that vibrated was fine too.

If you're really worried about the vibrations, you could always get a second opinion regarding the safety...it never hurts. Manipulation is thought to be safe as far as I know. I'll probably start soon.

DDC crashing....
I couldn't have made it through my last pregnancy as comfortably as I did without chiropractic care! My midwife referred me to one at 15 weeks for my hyperemesis and by 18 weeks I was down from vomiting a few times a day to a few times a week and I was able to cut my anti-nausea med dosage by 75%! So, yeah, I would say it's not only safe but very beneficial during pregnancy! Also, towards the end when my hips and pelvis started giving me trouble the adjustments helped a lot with keeping me from being in too much pain.

My last DDC had TWO chiros in it! I think hte vibration would really only be an issue if they were on a specific spot to trigger a reaction from your "pregnancy parts".

Between mild SPD, diastis recti and sciatica, I'm a mess by the third trimester. I must have chiropractic care to be able to even stand upright!

DDC crashing!

My DH is a chiro, and I saw him regularly for treatments throughout 2 PGs. 2 very normal, very easy, rather unremarkable PGs.

Remember that your body is designed to protect the baby. Especially with baby so little tiny, there's so much fluid and your own body to absorb vibrations.

Thanks you all, I will go back to the chiro, my only real concern were the vibrations on my low back. I will probably tell him to stick with the adjustments only next time.

Thanks again

It's especially useful to have a chiro who specializes in preg women (and who is trained in Webster technique even if babe isn't breech). My lovely chiro did a housecall while I was in labour with ds2. She adjusted me while I was in the pool (used an activator covered by a ziploc bag
and my doula (whose arm was on my back at the time) and I both felt the baby rotate down into position. I was pushing before she walked out the door and baby was born 20 min later (If I had been at all verbal I would've invited her to stay and I remember thinking that...but I couldn't get the thoughts connected to actual speech at that point).

Chiropractic treatment has been proven safe and effective by numerous scientific and medical studies including the RAND group in the US.
It has many health benefits beyond relieving back and neck pain - chronic migraines, digestive problems, skin problems, concentration/ADHD, and many other conditions regularly improve with patients.
