I was thinking about buying a Suzanne's kitchen with wooden play accessories. here's the link:http://www.willowtreetoys.com/product/EA07
Anyway, I don't have no problem paying for it, but I asked my mom's opinion, and she says I should go with a cheaper one because my kids will most likely tear it up. So now, I'm not sure which to buy. Can anyone give me a link on why wooden/natural toys are better than plastic? My kids are almost 5 and 2. We have mostly plastic toys and so this year I wanted to try wooden/natural. Btw, do you think this kitchen set would be age appropriate for both kids? Thanks in advance!

Wow, that's a great kitchen. Wish I could afford it!

No, I don't think it would tear up. I have a friend that has a similar kitchen. If they are well-made, they can be passed down to your children's children. I think your kids are a great age for the kitchen. I was actually looking into buying my kids (6 and 3 and 1 1/2) for Christmas but they're way too expensive for our budget.

Anybody know of a kit you could buy with the sink, burners, etc. to make this yourself?

I was at IKEA a few weeks ago and I saw they had wooden stoves, kitchen sinks, and refrigerators -- maybe other stuff, too -- very reasonably priced ($30-$50 for each piece). You have to assembly them yourselves. I plan on getting them when my DS is a little bigger.

Does the wooden stove have sharp edges? I wouldn't think so, but I thought I'd ask.

I have the Suzanne's kitchen and we love it. But I would recommend that you look in resale shops, online (ebay) and waldorf schools' classifieds to get one used. That way you can get more fun pretend play for them.

All my kids LOVE it. The 9 mo boy even stands up to it and plays at it. The boys in our family like it more that the girls, though. MY THeir papa cooks a lot so they mimic what they see. My friend's girls play with it all the time when they come over and they are 5 and 2. It is a fun toy.

We have two playstands in front of it with long silk scarves as a roof. Then we've put other items, wash bin, broom, doll beds, clothes rack, another fridge, all items to pretend being in a house. They really LOVE it when I get in there and show them how to play house. I give them 15 minutes of ideas and then they play for hours.

Also, Target carries a wooden kitchen, too. I like that one too and MUCH cheaper.

Let us know how the kids like what you get for them.

There are no waldorf schools around here.

But, I was looking at the Sounds kitchen or something like that. Its plastic and I think its made by Little Tikes. It looked cool. It has a microwave, stove, and all. Its about 50% cheaper than the Suzanne's kitchen. My son is real rough with his toys. He can break things very easy.
