The family has started asking me for the annual wish list for the kids this year. My MIL wants to know what she should get DD who is almost 9 mos. We have been doing fine with DS' hand-me-downs. I'm super picky about clothes so I generally prefer to pick my own. I prefer nicer natural-ish toys (Haba, handsewn, knitted, wooden, etc). We already have good blocks, stacking toys, wooden kitchen, food, stringing beads, uhm what else? We have tons of books. Any ideas of what would be good for DD? Should we get her started on some doll set or something girlie?

A dollhouse might be a neat gift that you can furnish with other birthdays...
I have started asking for family gifts - like double bike trailers, board games for when the children are older. I struggle with this too, I want to keep stuff to a min..... but people want to buy "things"....

I also have the problem I say what about the following toys....and we get clothes....diamonds are a girls best friend ask for cash kidding but its not a bad idea to start an education fund and give people the option of a small gift and a contribution (we started that last year in my family)... you could also ask for experience gifts - like a membership to the zoo, tickets to see Elmo....

Thanks for the suggestions, Shiloh. They do NOT get that I like keeping all the kiddo stuff to a minimum also. They just want to be able to buy all the stuff they couldn't for DH when he was a kid because they barely had money for extra things. I already have a college scholarship fund so I may tell them about that since I don't think they know about it.

I second the idea of family memberships, since it sounds like you have a lot of great stuff already.

Do you have a sand and water table or some kind of activity table like that? DS loved to pull himself up on his activity table. How about a wagon to ride in? Do you have puppets? Maybe some nice puppets and puppet stand (both kids could use that).
