I can't get the search feature to work, so sorry if this has been asked before, but can someone tell me about church schools? In my state I have to be under a church school or hire a state certified tutor, so we will probably go the church school route. I have found one that sounds okay, but was wonderring what the normal price is to enroll? The one I found seems a little spendy compared to the other ones and they don't actually keep any type of records besides your enrollment forms. What, if anything should I be looking for in a church school? Also, if I become part of a church school, do I also have to join HSLDA? I feel so overwhelmed with all of this. :

ETA I was taking a shower and realized that I don't have to have her enrolled anywhere until she turns 7, so I have some time to research it still, but any info would still be very helpful.

Is this Alabama? Gosh, what crappy homeschool laws! Funny how HSLDA has it listed as a "low-regulation" state.

I can't tell you anything about church schools. I doubt you'd have to join HSLDA, though. I think you should hook up with a state homeschool organization to find out what you need to do and the best way to do it. You can find support listings at http://www.nhen.org.

Or move to Mississippi.

There's no way that you'd have to join HSLDA, and I wouldn't recommend it. They're not just homeschooling anymore. They've been fighting stuff like protecting your "right to spank" and campaigning against gay marriage (which I'm actually sorta against, but I'm more against them mixing causes).

I did some searching for you on-line and came up with this link:

http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/...abamaCover.htm

I hope it helps. The laws there sound very strange. If I lived had to pick a church school I would be looking for one that would keep me legal without requiring much from me

I've never joined HSLD. They annoy me. We've moved a lot with my DH's job so I just find out the laws where we live and do my best to follow them.
