Thanks for this. I e-mailed my congressman, both senators, and the gov.

Dear name of official here:

I do not want to waste your time or mine. This is not a "scripted" letter as I have composed it myself. Be aware this is something I feel very strongly about. "This" of which I speak is circumcision.

I am strongly opposed to routine infant circumcision. I do not agree with the American Academy of Pediatrics that routine infant circumcision is a surgery on which the parents must decide after being given non-biased information. Circumcision is a surgery that permanently changes a male's body. It is a surgery to which the male should be able make his own decision about what happens to his own body. Circumcision has been ingrained into our culture for far too long. It is time for it to be illegal, as female circumcision is illegal.

Here are some websites that you may find helpful in your research of this matter:
http://mgmbill.org/index.htm
http://www.mothering.com/discussions...splay.php?f=44
http://www.mothering.com/articles/ne...cumcision.html
I did see Kathy Chapman's response to another constituent at:
http://mgmbill.org/govresponses.htm from back in July.

Of course, you will find that many people have a vested interest in making sure that male circumcision stays legal - and routine. The removed foreskins are sold to medical companies who harvest the cells. These cells are used to create patches of skin for testing of cosmetic products. Other uses include the creation of TNS Recovery Complex which is used in "anti-aging" face creams. The Doctors who perform the circumcision also have a vested interest - the money they receive for this unnecessary surgery!

I STRONGLY urge you to introduce legislation that will make routine male circumcision illegal. Even if you think it will not pass it will still raise awareness of the minds of parents of unborn children.

Thank you for your time,

If your state is not on the list of those who have received the proposed legislation, you can make a huge difference. Arkansas was not on the list so my DH and I volunteered to become a temporary state office and sent the proposed legislation to all of our Representatives, Senator, and Governor. It will take a little time and a few stamps (for those who don’t have available email addresses) but it is worth it!

Sadly, our representatives have yet to show any interest in sponsoring this bill. But hopefully it will get a few of them to think and maybe take it on next year

Absolutely, you just have to change the first paragraph.

I tried to be concise and not come off like an emotional stay-at-home-mom with too much time on her hands.... which is how I feel like I am treated when I try and discuss anything of import with my elected officials.

NJ is also NOT on the list so I emailed the site sponsors to request a draft letter to send to my legislators.

This type of anti-circ activism is exactly what I was looking for when I came to the inactivism link today. I find it absolutely horrendous that newborn boys have to go through the torture and residual effects of living with a mutilated body as a result of circumcision.

Here in the Northeast I feel like I am in the minority with an intact son, but I am thankful every day that I have a mind that thinks for itself rather than mindlessly going with the "norm" at the expense of my baby. I know that when he grows up he will have access to the same information I have via the internet, and he will be thankful that I did not allow him to be maimed. He is perfect.

Any other NJ anti-circ activists, please speak up as well!
